Trial Membership Pricing Question

What are your opinions on three day trial pricing that rebills after 3 days?

Surfers seem to be a lot smarter nowadays and 75% sign up for the $4.95, download 4 gigs of movies then cancel before it rebills. Getting very frustrating and thought we should at least get $7.95 from the quick cancel artists. Any thoughts, advice or experiences would be appreciated.... :)

with your site I would try just a straight monthly membership and get rid of the trial. Intial signups will of course go down but your recurring members should go up.

No trials, ever. Gotta pay to play.

Or - if you insist - very limited trial, that only gives acces to 20% of the content.

Welcome to 2003.

Just buy a limited access script, or insert 'fast upgrading systems' so they only view a limited amount of sets and need to upgrade to month to see the rest, surfers click yes/accept done.

Thanks Mickey.....Actually I may have worded my question wrong and that's why I am writing. Joe took off the $4.95 trial about a week ago and sign ups have dropped off dramatically. I have however have been getting a few more $59.95 one times than usual because of it it seems. I just hate to see sign ups gor from 10 per day to 3 or 4.

I am trying to talk Joe in to putting the trial option back on the site but he wants to give it a few more weeks. I guess I am being a typical woman and looking for ammunition to convince him.... :winkwink: :winkwink: :winkwink:

Thanks again for your reply........ :)

Maybe try dropping the $24.95 down to $19.95 and see if your signups increase. I bet they will. :)

Can this be done with CCBill?

I think you would need your own merchant acct to do something like that.. How else would you be able to store the cc info?

Chris 02-03-2005 11:58 AM

trials are really only good for generic sites where leachers wont drain b/w

Deny downloads to trial subscriptions or create a duplicate site (www1.yourXXXsite.com as an example) soley for trials and cap the box.

We took away trials a while back ... and decided it is best t bring them back.

No, you can definitely do limited trials with ccbill. There are several ways:

1. Easy way - Have a site within the site - that contains only 20% of the very best stuff, or less, depending on what you have. Every other page in there has a ccbill link to upgrade your membership.

2. Hard way - requires some scripts and the ccbill callback, and you limit the downloads yourself depending on the username.

And lower prices definitely help signups and retention, but in my opinion should never go much south of $20.

camcutie 02-03-2005 04:51 PM

So nobody here has tried like $7.95 for three days or $9.95 for a week? That is what I was leaning towards if I bring back the trial. But as I can see it looks so far like the consensus is a downgraded trial membership access area and lowering my price from $24.95 to $19.95.

I was at $19.95 per month for about 5 years but when my affiliattes and camcutie girls started to build I raised the price to $24.95 so that they would make more money at the 60% (affiliatyes) & 75% (camcutie girls) I was offering. It really wasn't so I could make more money myself......

Any evening crowd opinion on this would be great!!! :)

I dont like trials unless you have 100 gigs of content, they are going to download it all and leave. At least let it cost them a months membership

My thoughts too Tony.....that's why we try to have more movies than you can download within the three day period. Seems some of them actually stay up for three days straight trying to get it all though. :1orglaugh :1orglaugh :Oh crap :Oh crap

BTW, thank you everyone that has contributed to this thread. It is a very important issue for me at the moment and we need a serious thread every once in a while here anyway..... :)

The only way I would go with a trial membership was if I was using DRM :2 cents:
