This question is to vague.

Is this a decent employee that shows up everyday and does most jobs but is stuck on one?

Is it someone who calls in sick because he/she has the sniffles and it's sprinkling outside?

If the first applies I see if it's a training course they may need and then I send them to one.

The second I hold the door open for them as they exit the shop.

Not always ... I have a full time real job now and my first task when I go in tonight is fire 3 people who are no good to our company.

They were paid well just have a huge lazy bone in them and no type of motivation in 3 weeks has changed it.
