Close up beaver shots (pics)
 

Yesterday my wife spotted what looks like a beaver chewing on a tree in our forest. I can't confirm it's a beaver but I am not sure if any other animals like this eat wood from trees.

We walked out with our camera and got these great shots.

This is not a beaver....it's a porcupine

That's not a porcupine, it's a three toed tree sloth :1orglaugh

I thought that too except I don't think porcupines eat tree bark do they? This guy was eating from the tree and there were all kinds of bare wood marks below him.

I just confirmed with a wildlife artist friend of mine. This is not a beaver it is a porcupine. I just never knew they ate tree bark.

it's definately a porcupine, check out the tail. beavers have large flat leathery tails.

Mamas got a big brown beaver, tell her to shave that thing then I'd hit it

Now I have to watch for them before letting my dogs out. They would attack that thing in a second only to come home covered in quills.

I was hoping for closeup pics of the "other" kind of beaver.

I am learning quite a bit about wildlife today. I originally thought it was a porcupine but the fact it was eating chunks of the tree threw me into thinking it was a beaver.

We have seen so many animals in the last few days at our house. Mostly deer though. Here are some pics (a little fuzzy)

Nope, I'm a vegetarian. I have tried the beaver tails at the top of Whistler mountain a few times while snowboarding. Best tasting little cakes in the world up there.

beavers don't climb trees.

it's either a racoon, or a porcupine.

and I had no idea that porcupines climbed trees either.

beavers are best known for their tails. So no tail means no beaver.

We had a porcupine climb one of our trees this fall... I think it was trying to get away from the dogs... it was up there all day. Never seen one in my life, not sure where it came from.

Okay, is there a reward for the answer? I'm betting on an old big fat racoon. Look at the eye in the second pic. Whatever it is it will show up again, and again so you can get a better shot and announce the winner.
