WARNING:
I was doing some surfing last night, looking at different cgi scripts on different sites. Before I went to bed I ran my virsus scanner and learned that I had picked up the VBS Love Letter virus in .jpg form. I assume it must have been in a cookie. I am not sure how it got by my virus scanner as it is supposed to protect me while I am surfing. I am using Norton 2002.
I don't recall what the Love Letter virus does, but if I recall correctly, it is a dangerous virus. This is the first time I have picked up a virus when browsing and I thought virus's were in .exe file form, but according to my virus scanner this was in .jpg form. Is this something new? Anyhow if you are surfing strange sites, it may pay to run your virus scanner afterwards. By the way I, quarentined and then deleted the virus, but I didn't know if that would actually kill it, so I took the few hours that it takes to wipe my hard drive so I assume it is completely gone. Am I right in this assumption? ------------------ XXX Galore |

Sounds wierd?
Anybody else have any input? |
you it is probably gone.. check the setting on norton and set it to the maximum you can live with, with active-x and other shit lately you can get some nasties without knowing it. just keep you definitions updated and keep the settings high.. it probably slipped my the scanner, maybe you were over working the pc.. i have seen that (i have done that LOL) it works simular to a buffer overflow.. hit it up with so much info that the malicious code slips by.. just make sure to run it evernight before you sleep and you should be coolio.

I dont know but I remember that that virrus was talked about alot awhile back.. I dont remember what it does but I think it had somthing do do with HD corruption and file loss.. I dont even know though...
I just had the NYB virrus the other day.. It was real cheesy though.. When I looked it up through my scanner it was from like 95 or somthing.. Real old.. All it did was load into the boot scector of memory and basicly just eat up some of your free memory.. It got all over the place though.. It just spread through all my HD's and disk drives.. I threw in a disk earlier today and I thought to scan because it enfected disk's that were not write protected and that little bugger was on there too.. I went through all my 3.5's that I have used recently after I found that and most were infected as well... I dont use a constant viruss scanner ever.. I never really have problems either.. So fuck it I say.. I keep my Dat files for my virus scanner up to date though.. Just in case... |
