Cuba, China Sign Oil Production Contract

Cuba signed a production contract with China Petroleum & Chemical Corp., or SINOPEC, to work in areas around the island believed to contain oil deposits, the government announced Monday.

The agreement was reached in an early Sunday meeting attended by Li Lianfu, China's ambassador to Cuba; Cuba's Basic Industry Minister Yadira Garcia; and Minister of Government Ricardo Cabrisas, according to an official note in Granma, the Communist Party daily newspaper.

"The contract confirms ascending political and commercial relations between the two countries," the front-page note said.

It did not say what the contract was worth.

The two communist nations forged a stronger economic partnership in November during a two-day visit to Cuba by Chinese President Hu Jintao in which he agreed to multimillion-dollar investment in the island's key nickel industry and increased Chinese involvement in Cuban tourism and telecommunications.

Cuba currently produces 75,000 barrels of oil daily, about half of what it needs. It imports much of the rest on favorable terms from political ally Venezuela.

Cuba has invited several foreign petroleum companies to join its efforts to find oil in the Gulf of Mexico. In late December, Cuban President Fidel Castro announced the discovery of a crude oil deposit off the coast of Santa Cruz del Norte, east of Havana, containing up to 100 million barrels.

He said production there could begin during 2006.

China admitted a few months ago that it is not a match for the US military...but it would work to change that.

When the Second World War ended there were 16 million Americans in the military with a national population of less than half of the current national population. If push comes to shove we can more than double that number.

Problem is I'm sure China can more than match any numbers we can throw out there..

China is a sleeping giant now fully awoke.

China is very far behind the US in military technology and sophistication of weapons and they really cannot compete in any kind of an arms race. They of course can mustar more personell...but they cannot arm them with any sophistication that would compete with the US military. In addition the US would never engage China in a land war in China...and China does not have the capability to project military power other than with ICBM's. If they choose to engage in an Arms race they will lose...at least for my lifetime and yours.

Good thing is that before they take over the world they will eradicate the world's wild animal population for body parts that can be ground up and increase their penis dimensions.

I definitely see a world in the future that looks a shit load like "Blade Runner" with Harrison Ford.
