Well, if they were following the laws wouldn't they be sending me W2's?

We send out 1099's to individuals and LLC's that we pay over $600 to in a year. This is what we need your SSN for. I would think every adult company making any real money would go to a CPA, which would do the 1099's for you or tell you to do them.

I know I have gotten 1099's from many adult companies.

W2's are for employees, not contract employees. You would get a 1099 at the end of the year. Some companies make you sign something before they issue the 1099.

Sooo...

This means that any sponsors you may have made $599 or less with are floating out there as unreported income with your SS# attatched to the paper trail. A little unnerving when you consider you have no idea what the company is or isn't reporting.

regardless of what they report, you should keep all of your check stubs and file them

how's it scary? its not their responsibility to report your earnings, it's YOUR responsibility. If you report what you make, there's no "paper trail leading anywhere"

ignorance is no excuse

Other than it's legal for the company. I may be wrong but I don't think you have to report it either, it's not considered an income until it's over $600. Or maybe you do but it doesn't go under income.. I don't know, I have a CPA do our shit.

You have to consider this, you're exempt from taxes if you make less than 5K annually, but just because you only make 599 from one sponsor, multiply across 10 and you're over the tax bracket, and in that case, all forms of income are required, and the companies dont want to be holding the bag for a tax evader. :)
