Legal advise

I know you cannot register a name such as sony.com (unless you are sony), but what about peoples names.

Can I register say a models name?

Say JennyKid (a made up name) or would she have the rites to it.

bringer 01-31-2005 04:56 AM

register whatever you want

B-Eazy 01-31-2005 04:58 AM

depends on if its trademarked.. Then you cant use it.

flashfreak 01-31-2005 05:00 AM

to be 100% sure you won't screw it you have to check for copyright infringements of course

What if they trademak it a few years after I register it?

Say I register it in 03, then somone sets up a pay site and wants the name, and so tryes to tradmark it?

JoeA 01-31-2005 05:15 AM

A problem or not...

It isn't illegal to register the name but if it can be proved that you are cyber sitting or using the name to steal traffic from the legal sites that use the models name you could be in trouble...

Do you have a problem Allan/Adam :)

Our problem with you allanuk was not your domain name but how you were using it. By cutting and pasting all of our meta name tags from the model in questions website and then adding these meta names to your own paysite word for word (plus a few lines of text which you use on your site, again, cut and paste from some of our other sites) in order for you to gain extra profit is where the problem was.
We're flattered you liked our sites so much you had to copy from them, but next time use your own imagination rather than leeching stuff from our sites.

BUSTED! :pimp

To others apart from Allan in this thread...

I queried Allans use of material on this forum:

http://www.adultwebmasters.co.uk/cha...e=1&thread=yes

Look for the thread headed: "New site goes live" You can see my question about the legalities and he answered his site was legal.. As you've seen Mattyboy has confirmed here, that Allan was a naughty boy...

Why is it fine?

Thats a very original excuse and didn't think you had any mates.

I have removed the meta tags.
Why did you put them there in the first place?

Its called cyber squating

Most people are happy to resolve it if the name is handed over though. Its usually things are resolved in these issues

Its not the name thats a problem as I am using it legaly. It was the fact that my mate must have put the meta tags in.

I checked before I got this name if it was legal for me to do so, and it was and still is.
