So I've been messing with some 3D - Check out my first model! (Frog Pic)

So I ordered an online video tutorial on how to model a frog - It was real helpful and I learned a shitload! This isn't exactly what I would consider finished though, since I have to fix that "seam" going up the middle of it's back and several other things model-wise.

But this is DEFINITELY fun stuff to mess around with! It's not as difficult as most tend to think, just a matter of learning whatever software you're using (Maya, for me).

Quite awhile! Since I'm a complete 3d newbie, it took me awhile to get familiar with the pretty complex interface - and I had several problems with took me hours to figure out!! The video tutorial for the modelling aspect of it (I also got one for texturing it as well) is 5 videos of around 30 mins a piece. So do the math + add 5 or so hours :).

Once you get the hang of it though and do enough of these tutorials, I can see myself doing something like that frog in a matter of a couple hours.

Where'd you get the video? We own a copy of Maya over here but only one guy knows how to use it. I'd be interested in giving it a shot. We also have a copy of Character Studio.

that looks good. i've never tried maya. most of my 3d work has been limited to bryce. nothing very special, mostly just scenery shit.

www.simplymaya.com - I did a few days of research to see what method of learning would be the best... as far as books are concerned, there really isn't anything good out there (I went to borders and they all sucked)... so video was my next best guess - and sure enough there are several companies / sites that specialize in maya training videos.

www.gnomonworkshop.com
www.digital-tutors.com
www.lostpencil.com

are 3 other big ones. I liked simplymaya.com the best though because their tutorials are lead by example - they take you step by step with modelling, animation, and texturing while actually building something.

The tree frog tutorial costs about $50 or so - you have to buy points though, minimum is 35 points (around $58).
