Just saw "Hotel Rawanda" ...

Man, sad to hear what goes in different countries....and this movie is about masacre which happened not too long ago in Africa in 1994....and no country would help just because these people and their country had nothing to offer....but Iraq has Oil so Bush and other countries will???? Bastards only after the $$$....heartless people man...

Sarah_Jayne 01-30-2005 06:31 PM

"ARE WE THERE YET", The Movie with Ice Cube..Just saw it

Man that was a stupid movie. My daughter laughed at it so that's the only thing that was important. Ice cube needs to stay as the straight man and let somebody else be funny. Those kids were bad as hell and the baby's mom was clueless. I'd NEVER date a woman like that. I was sighing through the whole movie because of the stupidity.

If you have kids, take em if you have nothing else to do. Otherwise, skip this movie.

20 members of a Canadian peace keeping platoon that were sent commited suicide after returing home. What they say was fucked up and there was no support here (it was cut by the last regime in charge). No one here knew what was going on and frankly no one cared.

Romeo Dallaire wrote a book about the events in Rwanda - it's called "Shake hands with the Devil" - he had a nervous breakdown because of the lack of support to his UN peacekeeping force. I only read passages, but I would have probably jumped out the nearest window.

kowntafit 01-30-2005 10:38 PM

I've never even heard of that fim but it doesn't really sound like something I'd like to see.

hottoddy 01-30-2005 11:16 PM

Even if people cared, Clinton wouldn't have had the balls to do shit.

For sure..his accent in the Ocean 11/12 movies is so dodgy that I was worried about this film but he did a great job.

The only slight moment of comedy for us was that Jean Reno played the head os Sabena. When he asked who he can call to stop it my friend mumbled 'you are fucking Leon..sort it out yourself!'.

PHPdude 01-31-2005 03:09 AM

i watched both oceans 11 and 12 there alright

Oh really? Congo is one of sub-Saharan Africa's main oil producers. The resource is the mainstay of the economy and they are becoming one of the worlds top suppliers. If you don't know, don't talk.

Congo has 1% of the proven oil reserves of Iraq.

West Africa produces 18% of the US net oil imports, more than Iraq.

ADL Colin 01-31-2005 04:35 AM

Excellent movie.

A few points. Almost the entire Rwandan massacre occured in a very short time frame; 3 months. The event happened right after after the pullout in Somalia. It would be very difficult to project power into a landlocked country in a three month period and develop a reasonable plan; both politically and for the involvement itself. Someone in the world is always opposed to any particular conflict involvement and getting resolutions from international bodies such as the UN can take a very long time as the usual political process is to issue warnings first and threaten future actions. This actually happened with the UN in Kosovo. There are always conflicts the world over in which the rest of the world does not get too involved. Chechnya right now is an excellent example. So is Burundi. There are something like 20 armed conflicts going on in the world right now.

One of the great things about the west is its open press and dialogue. Today, many people view not going into Rwanda at the time a mistake. World leaders, past and present, such as Koffi Annan and Bill Clinton have spoken on the lessons learned from Rwanda. Clinton later visited Rwanda.

Remember that all the bloodshed in Rwanda happened in about a three month period. Consider that it took much longer than that for NATO to get organized enough to intervene in Kosovo and that it took place despite the fact that NATO nations had to bypass the UN. Politics is a difficult business.

The vast majority of that coming from Nigeria and Angola, not Congo.

Congo's oil production represents about 1.4% of America's oil consumption.
