too late, he should have folded Like i said |
well if the average holding 8000 and you say you had 30,000 you should have still been in even loosing that hand????
|
5 HOURS into the tourney!!
blinds were 1200 and 600. I was big blind.... 2nd in chips....had to make a small move...but him calling/putting me all in was sucky. |
thats poker for ya.. its not just about your pocket cards, its a bit of luck too.

No, he shouldnt have folded.. especially seeing as how he had more money than you .. you made a good bet... he made a better raise.. you made the correct call .... from then on out.. its called poker...

sucks man. Worst shit has happend to me.
|
It depends ENTIRELY on how the other guy had been playing. Chances are I'd have called him as even if he had a lower pair the odds would have been almost even. However, if his playing pattern suggested a pair was lightly folding would have been preferred. If however, he was the type of guy to bet big on an A I'd have gone with him.
After that as someone said it's Poker. Skill will mean you win more than you lose. However, lady luck will always feature and make sure sometimes you do lose. |
so how much did you win for 6th?

I would have called only hands that would give you real trouble is AA and KK, pocket pairs is a coinflip and anything else you are massive ahead and with the pot at around 45K where you put in the 16K its a call.

i chopped a nice tourney at bellagio on wed..
well chopped once we made it down to 3.. 540 buyin..118 players.. i laid down a/q simliar situation..hard to die preflop with nothing.. |
position is everything in nl holdem..
assuming you bet 3 times the blind and he went over the top..you still had 22k chips left..if avg stack was 8k..you made the bad move..reason being..YOU called his bet..you knew you were beaten but gambled..and lost.. you should have lived with your 22k and not have been short stacked..now if you had raised 8k with 15k total..obviously you gamble..but you werent really pot committed yet. |

Edit:[*] Out of position mind you! |
Smart poker players here, well at least one ;)
It's true, a lot of people seem to go all in on A K now, I think it's because of too many poker shows where a short stack will do it with that hand. The hand only has power before the flop, after the flop a pair of 2s will beat if you dont get your cards. So yeah, you had nice pocket cards, you played the hand to buy the blinds, got raised WARNING! :) |
that guy having a pair of 9's was even dumber..so you can take some solice in that..
|
I miss the poker league here :(`
|
How many chips did the big stack have? He may not have called you if you went all in preflop.
|
you overplayed AK, you bet out over half your stack?
ok, it's tough I know.. AK 6 handed is very powerful, if you get in early position (up front) it is always good idea to bet out 3-4* the big blind, if someone moves all in behind you, you need to make a difficult judgement.. is he pushing with a Ax (i.e ace with a weaker kicker), where you have him totally dominated, does he have a pair in which case your 45/55 as long as he doesnt have KK or AA, or is he pushing with trash? you need to make that judgement based on past observations and an old maxim is that the best players can and will fold AK preflop if the math dictates it At this stage of a tourney, 6 handed and 2nd in chips you dont really want to be playing either 50/50's or situations that your 20/80 (if he has AA or KK) and certainly not for all your chips ! Infact, you ought to be very aware as to what players can do damage to your stack i.e those who are 3rd or 1st in chips and bully the smaller stacks, dont get tangled with these close calls with folks who can bust you.. thats the best advice.. save them for later if you bet out 3x Big blind (im not sure what was) and if he moves all in behind you, it is absolutely correct to fold as you dont really have any pot odds to justify such a large call .. and you live to fight another day .. |
