Virtual dedicated hosting... Oxymoron?
 

I'm showing my ignorance here, maybe.

I just noticed Godaddy is offering virtual dedicated hosting plans. Is this possible? I thought virtual hosting was sharing a server... and dedicated hosting was having a server all to yourself.

Can someone explain virtual hosting to me?

its a virtual private server, has its own environment. more powerful then virtual hosting, less power then a real dedicated;

If it's virtual, it's something else. :)

A virtual private server works by partitioning the actual hardware resources of the server to seperate sections of one dedicated server. So each segment gets its own fair dedicated share of the servers resources. Each segment can then be managed with the same capabilities of a dedicated server for the most part.

Virtual is when you get to share a server with someone else.
