Post your "creative" tax write off ideas.

I was having lunch with a business associate today and somehow we got on the discussion of taxes. During the discussion, he told me that he writes his dog off as "Office Equipment" to the tune of about $1,500 per year.

I'm still laughing my ass off over that one.

So...What's are some of your creative write offs?

brand0n 01-28-2005 08:44 PM

Since I am single and by proxy masterbate when I am too tired or lazy to call up a girl, so I claim my palms. Palmela (left) is a depedant and Palmera (right) is my spousal equivalent. I have considered get a SSN/SIN for Pamelra and adding her to my employeers benifits program and insuring the hell out of her. Being right handed I rely on Pamlera more than Palmela...

If you travel anywhere to meet a fellow webmaster (whether it's a show or just going to visit a single webmaster) , you can write mileage, airfare, hotel expenses, 'entertainment', and a bunch of other expenses off as business related expenses.

:winkwink:

I pay all my taxes. But I know of people in the biz who have set up offshore corps, obtained visa cards on those accounts, and never paid taxes.

Stupid.

Well the main thing they got me for was me trying to take more of a deduction for my home office, power, water etc than was allowable. We came to a agreement real fast...I pay them what they tell me I owe them. LOL

Creative tax write off's dont get you audited if you dont go overboard.

If you dont actually have an office built in your house, but use the kitchen, you can still take a write off. Just make sure that you follow the guide lines that the IRS gives.
If you buy something in mass quantity, like steaks or something, have a few friends over, and talk some business. Then you can write some of it off. Dont forget your phone, cell phone, pager, computers, upgrades, programs, cameras etc. they will all get you a write off.

JUST FOLLOW the DAMN rules.

I lease my cars through my company to myself for around $200 a month, that way they're a 100% business writeoff without any questions.

I've got no problem putting a couple hun a month back into my company :)

exactly
there are more than enough legal write-offs that are out there for the taking without having to get too creative...I live in Las Vegas, the most audited city in the nation, I have to be extra careful ;-)
