Bring US in small denominations. People down there rarely "have" the change if you know what I mean :2 cents:

Don't go unless you want to get kidnapped, j/k I don't know what I'm talking about but you should check with CNN.

The US Dollar does very well in Mexico.

Pesos. you are in Canada so don't convert to US just go straight to pesos.

This person apparently has no clue. Bringing pesos is not advisable :2 cents:

I live in Mexico. You're stupid if you spend US dollars here. It's a rip the moment you pull a greenback outta your pocket.

When in Mexico, do as the Mexicans. Go with Pesos. Currently, it's 11.?/1 exchange ratio here. And, DON'T use your credit/debit card here. You pay a higher price when you do. Plastic for ATMs, ONLY!

True. All you need is your atm card, especially in Cancun or Playa. Everything else just becomes a problem. Withdraw pesos as you need them--plain and simple.

Yep, I live here in Cancun and the quote above is correct :) :thumbsup If you can't do that, exchange to pesos before you come.....

The USD isn't so almighty anymore :) BTW, most business here, unless your in the hotel zone, don't take anything but pesos.

Alot of people just have the completely wrong info about Mexico..... :disgust

Der Schleicher 01-28-2005 08:36 AM

Don't forget to bring your master card

hmm really? I was in durango and a $100 popped out and i got ambushed by 2 guys selling wallets, 1 selling some bracelet type things, and another selling some of those laser pointers. I guess its different in cancun since lots of gringos go there :Graucho

Those same guys that you say ambushed you don't care if you are using USD, Candian or pesos. If they take your USD, they exchange it just like everyone else.

Of course they know that tourists have money to spend....just like when you go to Disneyland and pay $55 for a hat...tourists pay......

dirtydesignz 01-28-2005 08:48 AM

another thing....some of the street vendors will try to sell you something for only $20 US OR $200 pesos...alot of tourist think the $20 is a better deal :winkwink:

Most DON'T have change in USD. If you use pesos, they will have change.

Depends...shop at WalMart or Costco and you'll pay the same prices as the US, but if you know where to find what you need at the little shops that aren't frequented by tourist, then you can find really good deals....

The hotel zone in Cancun is priced for tourists. You usually won't find good deals there :) You have to go into the REAL Cancun......
