Treo 600 or Blackberry?
which is the best? i'll be using it primarily to send and receive email and update my blog, while traveling. GSM/GPRS seems to be very good for most of Europe and Asia.
if blackberry is the way to go, which model should i be considering out of these? any tips or advice would be awesome... thanks :) |
7100r I have heard good shit about. I havent personally used it to give my opinion of it just heard from people.
|
i think if the 600 runs out of batter you could lose all of your stuff... they fixed it in the 650 but there's no GSM version avialable yet
|
I love my treo, but I've had to have it replaced 3 times - the screen breaks easily. I had a blackberry before, it was strong, I just like the featureset on the Treo and will continue to swap my treo when needed
|
With your bling, I would hire an AZN to carry around a briefcase phone.
|
I would go with the blackberry
|
You need to ask one question
How much are the replacement batteries? The 270 treo cost $270 to replace the battery and it had to go back to the factory , took 4 weeks. So be careful
|
blackberry 7100r the only way to go!!! i'm in love with mine :thumbsup
|
I have a Treo. I wouldn't trade it for the world... or at least until the nexgen Motorola MPX comes out later this year.
Until then, nothing beats a Treo. Oh, don't worry about the battery life, I never run out in under a day even when I'm using it to connect my laptop to the web. Get a 650. |
the treo 650 for sure!
|
gonna go for the 600 meself ;-)
|
I have the Treo and love it.
|
If those are the only two choices, go with the Blackberry.
The Treo 600 sucks and you will be replacing it many times. There is a buzzing issue with the phone that seems to come from a firmware issue which they have yet to correct. I have heard it is fixed on the Treo 650. :2 cents: |
Treo is very nice

I also have the Treo 600 and love it.

I have the Treo650 and LOVE it. If ya are a good hack, you will love it even more. There are lots and lots of things you can do with it.
|
I'd get BB 7290.
7100 is good too, but takes a while to get used to typing. |
hmm, i'm still not sure what to go with. the treo 650 sounds interesting, but doesn't look like it will be offered in Canada for awhile yet...
|
Treo is a lot cooler. :upsidedow
|
No Treos on Canada? That's crazy.

I have the blackberry 7100 t ... and like it. easy to type on. easy web browsing. still need to set up my email so I'm not sure on that. but the keyboar is great.
only used the treo 600 once. sure if i would have used it more i would have liked it. found the keys to be a little slick. stylistically it's a little mroe appealing. Not sure if treo goes into power save mode, or if you can dim the back light... but the battery life on the blackberry is awesome ... as a result of those features |
|
a couple more questions:
- is their any way to take pics from a digital camera and upload them to either handheld, in order to email them to others (yeah, the treo has a camera, but it's .3 megapixels so pretty much useless imo). - if i get one of these handhelds, i won't be bringing a computer at all. how prone are they to crashing/etc? the reason i ask, is because i won't be syncing them up to a computer for the most part. basically it's going to be used stand alone. thoughts? - does gfy have a pda-compatible version? ;) cheers |
might as well go with the better known blackberry model :thumbsup
|
The 650's camera is fantastic. Much better than the 600's. I have a 1gb Smart Dig card in mine for saving pictures and music then transferring to my laptop or emailing.
Lets see one of those other monkeytoys do that. |

fuck the blackberry and palm os devices
http://www.microsoft.com/windowsmobi...e/default.mspx
Have had several of these devices they all rock. They sync seemlessly with all windows office apps They are mostly GSM tri band (work anywhere) Their screens shit all over the Treo for resolution They are easy to use. :2 cents: |
Check out the Treo 650
|
I forgot to add i have the XDA Mini / Imate Jam (depending on market)
Smaller than an IPOD - 400MHZ - SD slot - Bluetooth - 320x240 screen rotateable to portrait OR landscape - 1.3 MEGAPIXEL CAMERA! Small demo here: http://www.clubimate.com/ifrdisp.asp...EDEMO&DEMO=JAM and here: http://www.myxda.com/product/XdaIImi...ProductInfo.vm |
Check out EBay for a GSM version of the Treo 650 if one exists. I'm not sure as I use a CDMA version.
I am sure that the 650 camera looks 500% better than the 600's. The difference is night and day so I don't know how they are rating the megapixels of it all. But hell, that gives you more reason to buy one of those tiny palmsized Panasonic MP4 ready Video cams. I think it will catch your snowboard outings and the after boarding ski lodge jacuzzi bunnies a lot better than any phone cam. |
Had a Treo for nearly a year and no probs... except for a small spider getting in the screen and dying!

blackberry in my opinion
|
awesome info, thanks!
|
I am fully undergoing the same decision right now.. seems everyone loves what they have, and would never try anything else.
i just want a solution i can ssh from somewhere in the woods between van & whistler.. so that i can stop being in the office without worrying :) i think that bell has the best data coverage around here; but if its for over seas who knows let me know if you demo them and what you find :) |
i prefer HP iPAQ h6315

Had my eye on the Motorola MPX300 to replace my MPX200...but now you've got me thinking otherwise. |

Treo kill the Blackberry for two reasons, the touchscreen (which I cannot live without now) and the easier and much faster web access. The keyboard is necessary. Any other PDA/Phone without a keyboard is a no go unless you only want to do very simple things on yours. Nothing will beat the Treo until the next generation of PDA/Phones come with built in Wi-Fil liek the new Motorola. |
