The story I read was he suffered major trauma.
A piece of the plastic bumper was imbedded through the skull 1/4 of the way through his brain.
It was too risky to remove so they added bone grafts to stabilize the plastic piece.
He now has a piece of the bumper visibly extending out his forehead.
He is doing well in college and his nickname is bumper boy.
