An element of this has to do with marketing. If a camhost promotes herself externally (other than on iFriends.net) or provides material where others can promote her, - she will earn.

Being a camhost is a biz like any other - same as webmastering - some earn shit, others earn plenty. It takes a few skills.

ifriends is a shitty company. i had to turn them into the BBB back in 2001 for unpaid checks.

Four hours per week with no outside promotion would probably make
$0 - $40. Ifriends has changed a lot over the years due to saturation and the amount of performers. I made very good money with ifriends solo and girl/girl a few years ago but stopped doing it because it became a waste of time. :(

I only know one girl doing well at this time and she uses all ifriends promotional tools as well as a huge yahoo group that she moderates. She also stays live for about 6 hours per day.

I worked as a cam girl bifore ibecame webmisteress...it was long time ago, but i can tell you a few things about it:

I worked in the studio, with a lot of girls, so i also saw how much $$ everyone doing.
Some very avarage looking girls, made 20 times less then a very hot girls.
Because they knew how to speak with a customer...how to make him inlove.
How to make him to spend a lot of time in the chat and come back everytime.
If she will know how to do it..she will make good money.
If she will only make a sex show...i dont think she will be happy with a results.

I agree, just about everything is so cheap (or free) besides the fat pipe and a decent cam. If you're really committed and know a thing or two about adult internet marketing you can make a go at it with your own site and take 100% of the sales (minus processing fees, of course).

What do the major cam sites pay their performers anyway, 30-50% or so?

A good blog, Yahoo group, spamming link dumps and making the odd gallery from cam shot photos can get you a LOT of traffic. If you can get a couple of sugar daddies along the way you'll be making a lot more than the cut that iFriends hands you.
