Have about 300k to spend on high quality domains!

I'm in the mood to buy a few great domains. Looking to spend about 300k in the next few days. Here are my requirements....

1. Must be a .com or premier .net

2. Must get significant type in traffic

3. Can not be a typo of another companies name or brand.

4. We are looking for names that generate natural traffic and revenue, not names that are "brandable" or have " great potential".

5. We're looking for both adult and non-adult names.

6. The minimum we're looking to spend on any 1 name is 10k, so please no junk. We would prefer to spend the entire 300k on 1 or 2 names, but we're open to several names or a large group, depending on what comes our way.

We normally pay 2-4 years multiple on earnings, depending on the name, etc.

Have something good? Drop me an e-mail at [email protected]

Donny 01-27-2005 12:01 PM

For pay sites? If so, save the money on domains and instead spend it on quality content. Serious.

Having a quality site is more important than having a nice domain.

Examples:

karupsha.com
karupspc.com
amkingdom.com

etc...

I guess you sell content, right?

Amongst other things. But I'm not asking him to buy from me. I'm too busy with my existing clients to take on new clients.

Those sites I mentioned do REALLY well. The domains suck. People learn where to go when a site is a QUALITY site.

Remember when two guys decided to brand the name "yahoo". What the fuck was that? But.... need I say more?

Donny 01-27-2005 12:07 PM

Here's another "need I say more" example:

thehun.net

Not a particularly good domain name.

Donny 01-27-2005 12:08 PM

ConsumptionJunction.com

Long ass domain name that really isn't that great either. Even Latona will tell you that.

Anyone else?

NaughtyINC 01-27-2005 12:17 PM

donny... im sure ken knows what makes a good pay site and so forth (hint take a peak at his email / sig )

but also you are very right in regards to name is not everything... but I think in this case its more for domain aquisitions (could be wrong)

Some people can't distinguish between the 5,000 uniques a day their site receives from trades and search engine listings with the 50/uniques a pure type-in domain receives. But there is a big difference. Apples and oranges.

Not everyone operates their business the same way. Some people prefer to develop a small parcel of land outside the main city. They work hard and with time and investment they may have a very nice suburban resort that is extremely lucrative. Of course this method requires constant upkeep. Visitors will most likely need to be continually lured from the city to the devlopment area, if a certain level of profit is to be maintained over time.

Others prefer to go right to the heart of the city and buy the biggest building on Park Place avenue that overlooks the waterfront. They know this property is valuable from day one for a number of obvious factors.

Can either method be considered better?

Two different business practices. Two different ways of owning and devolping real estate. Different costs, different degree of expertise required, and different on so many levels.

My :2 cents:

Donny
You do understand that of the domains you posted Ken proberly has enough traffic at his fingertips to cripple them all at once?

You really made a fool of yourself here

Good luck with the offers Ken, wish I had something for you

well thats a bit more blunt than the way I said it...

best of luck getting some more domains though ken

jeffrey 01-27-2005 01:06 PM

I have one that gets 7-20 type ins a day.... lol

sig spot.... err shit.

mahoney 01-27-2005 01:09 PM

I agree that is a recockulous amount of money to spend on domain names.
I would say that even if I didn't sell content

TheFrog 01-27-2005 01:09 PM

over 10 grand per domain thats bound to get some nice ones filter out the crap

KRL 01-27-2005 01:11 PM

We're about to close a deal on DirtyJokes.com in that price range.

[email protected] and $250,001.00 if you want to outbid Viacom by a buck.

:winkwink:

Ken 01-27-2005 01:13 PM

DonovanPhillips - Not for paysites (I don't know anything about that business). I'm kind of new so I'm still learning what's what ;) Seriously, you are comparing apples and oranges. I'm sure all the sites that you mentioned are great, but they all require work. Great type in domains just make money ;)

Paxton - Agreed. I'm getting lazy in my old age so I prefer to buy prime real estate and just collect "rent" ;)

MrBaldBastard - lol :1orglaugh

NaughtyINC - thanks! I hope to find a few good ones!

Keep those e-mails coming guys!

Daymare 01-27-2005 01:17 PM

Here's a name to consider. If you know the gay market then you might be interested in barebacking.com.

http://www.barebacking.com (asking price is $7500) will be selling it by Feb 1st. I already have a couple of 5k offers through sedo.com, so if you want to place a bid, do it before next Tuesday :)

The domain gets > 600 typeins a month, verified by sedo.

Ken 01-27-2005 01:26 PM

So if I paid 300k for a domain that earned 12k per month with no work involved, that's ridiculous? I would buy them all day long if I could...

Good domain, but not enough type in traffic for what we are looking for. Good luck selling it!

Yeah register bangbus.com and then maybe that will happen. Your about 10 years to late for the whole "build it and they will come" theory.

you can not fathom who this "ken" person is can you?

RottenPug 01-27-2005 01:58 PM

Good luck Ken, there are definitely some out there. Though I think the real winners will require at least a bit of development, if someone could make 12k a month off a domain doing nothing why would they sell it for 300k? (the reverse of your thinking)

If you had 100x the money to spend you could pick up craigslist.com now valued at $400m

well said sir

Ken 01-27-2005 02:01 PM

Really? Strange, in the last couple of years I've bought names like hotsex.com, analsex.com, gangbang.com, wetpussy.com, insurancequotes.com, etc, etc, etc.

I guess the money I make from those names isn't real. I should notify my bank so they stop cashing all those checks I get. Shit....time to rethink this whole Internet thingy :1orglaugh :1orglaugh :1orglaugh

NaughtyINC 01-27-2005 02:03 PM

if you do not know him or know of ken then I have to somewhat ask how informed are you our community of online adult..

*hint* take a peak at his signature(s) ..

Ken 01-27-2005 02:04 PM

RottenPug,

Thanks! It's definitly hard to find the good ones. Much tougher than it used to be, but I still come across some gems every once in a while. Last year I bought Hotsex.com and the deal made sense for both myself and the seller :)

Also, in many cases I can earn more with a domain than someone else might be earning. Therefore, I might be able to give them 4 years of income and make my money back in 2.5 years, making it a pretty good deal for everyone involved!

Damn, who in the world would ever let domain names like that expire or sell them? I thought you were a newbie for a second I didn't realize I was in the presence of an Internet Legend :) You are Ken from cashquest2...yes?

Ken 01-27-2005 02:10 PM

I don't know about legend, but I've been around for a few years ;)

They didn't expire. I bought them....for a lot of money! But I make good money on them each and every month so I'm always looking to buy more. It's a long term investment for sure, but can be profitable if you're patient.

jimholio.com

is available......

Donny 01-27-2005 02:46 PM

I just don't see how any domain name (unless it's some multi MILLION dollar kick ass 3 or 4 letter domain) will ever pay for itself in pure type-in value. Maybe I'm ignorant. In my opinion, you'd need something like sex.com to have a domain that paid for itself in type ins, and that wouldn't go for $300k. Or even $3 million. Knowing Gary Kremen, $30 mil probably wouldn't even be enough. :)

Branding, branding, branding....

DomBuyer 01-27-2005 02:47 PM

These threads never seem to ebb: People who reveal themselves by climbing in and saying how ridiculous it is to spend money on domains....yada yada...

Good luck Ken.

BTW..Ken..give me a call/ICQ when you get a chance..we have an incredible domain that I might have mentioned to you at one point. We might be able to do something together. Not really looking to sell it unless the price is right. More looking for development partners. It's got huge potential :thumbsup
