When was the last time you bought a new PC

well for me its over 12 months the things are just so good now I cant see the point we have 4 PC's and 2 laptops here in the office and normaly I buy every 12 months but the new ones are not that much better anymore so maybe its every 2 years now.

Adulter 01-27-2005 04:04 AM

half a year ago
and yeah... I buy new every 12-18 months, I think

The Other Steve 01-27-2005 04:10 AM

We upgraded two older ones in the last few months with new motherboards, new processors, new hard drives, new OS and more RAM and video cards that handle two monitors. All the other parts were recycled from the previous boxes.

New machines are nice but unless you need to write them off for tax purposes it seems a bit pointless.
.
Although I wouldn't bother trying to upgrade a lap top

feN 01-27-2005 04:36 AM

bought one just 2 months ago
amd 64 3500+
radeon x800 xt
etc... :)

ffmihai 01-27-2005 04:37 AM

Babagirls 01-27-2005 05:52 AM

i think what im gonna start doing is just buying a new PC/laptop (or doing alot of upgrades on them) every year with my tax refund. (since they're tax deductable anyways)

pushpills 01-27-2005 06:44 AM

Herb Kornfield 01-27-2005 07:40 AM

2 years ago... Time for a new one or a custom job.

Slick 01-27-2005 07:42 AM

I built a top of the line computer last July which costed me $4600. I think that I'll probably build another one towards the end of this year.

As far as my laptop, it's almost a year old now. I don't spend a lot of time on it, so it'll probably hold me over for another year.

sumphatpimp 01-28-2005 05:33 PM

this machine is a year and two months old.
last weekend I had to put a new hard drive in it.
no more factory garbage, next time I will build my own.

Shoplifter 01-28-2005 05:36 PM

There isn't much improvement in performance on the horizon and until it gets to say 30% over what I have now I won't buy a new motherboard or CPU.

My last big upgrade was to go all SATA drives, and that was a nice improvement.

I may buy a Mac Mini to screw around with as I think it's and interesting idea (computer as cheap disposable appliance), but it's hard for me to take Apple seriously in terms of performance.

xclusive 01-28-2005 05:38 PM

about a week ago and it was supposed to be delivered by fedex but i still haven't gotten it because of the snow storms that we got hit by I should have it early in the morning UPS said.

Sosa 01-28-2005 05:49 PM

sickkittens 01-28-2005 05:52 PM

I got a new one for Christmas actually. Much better. ;)

jact 01-28-2005 05:55 PM

I built a new machine in December, spent a month trying to convince them that the motherboard was bad, so really, I haven't even had it "working" for a month. Didn't think upgrading from a P4 2.4 to a P4 3.6 would make such a difference in speed, but boy did it. Unfortunately I can't overclock it, it runs way too hot as is. The newest chipsets are just too hot.

Monique Niccole 01-28-2005 05:56 PM

I got a new Dell lappy 2 weeks ago. Now I'm thinking about a new desktop build.

JSA Matt 01-28-2005 05:59 PM

Just built 2 of these...

AMD 64 3500+ 90nm
geForce 6800 Ultra OC (from XFX)
2GB Corsair 2-2-2-5 XMS Dual Channel
Audigy 2...
etc etc...

Words cannot describe how sweet these things are, it beats the hell out of my P4 3.06GHz that I use at work :)

Dalai lama 01-28-2005 06:00 PM

about 5 months agow

irishfury 01-28-2005 06:02 PM

baddog 01-28-2005 06:06 PM

I only "bought" one new pc in my life, and that was back in the late 80's, complete with Windows 3.0 and DOS 5.0

jeffrey 01-28-2005 06:08 PM

I buy a new part every few weeks

Pornopat 01-28-2005 06:34 PM

fusionx 01-28-2005 06:43 PM

Just a couple weeks ago from this thread: http://www.gofuckyourself.com/showthread.php?t=414649

Rhino22 put together a great box for me. Asus K8V SE Deleuxe MB, Athlon 64 3400+, gig of DDR ram, ATI x800 Pro, Serial ATA, Aspire 520 watt PS, Promise SATA Raid chip and Via SATA Raid built into the southbridge, built in gigabit networking, 6.1 surround sound, you name it, this Mobo has it.

$1180 including shipping. This beast is fast!

$875 if you want the standard ATI X600 pro (plus shipping).

BTW - if you are looking for SATA drives, NewEgg.com has the Western Digital Caviar SE 160GB for $98.00 each (OEM).. killer deal. 3 year warranty.

Jake 01-28-2005 07:57 PM

It's been a little while. I'm still using this but I've been considering an upgrade:

Got one for my wife recently, so she can use it in the kitchen.

Picked myself up a kick ass Vaio recently too.

What do you want to use it for? For normal, everyday use, the Powerbook is more than enough, for serious video editing the Powermac is better.

Spunky 01-28-2005 08:23 PM

About 4 years.. It still works great for what I do ..I don't download music or design so .....

badmunchkin 01-28-2005 08:32 PM

dude you wasted so much money... even the AMD 64 3500+ (not even the FX-53) beat the living shit out of my P4 3.06GHz :)

abadfish 01-28-2005 09:26 PM

I bought my laptop in May of 2003... Seems really old now... I am waiting for the G5's though, then I will upgrade!
