Graphics people, WTF is going on here?

I've noticed something strange lately to do with .eps and .ps

I have a designer who creates graphics for me, I always get the finished graphics in .jpg, .tiff, and .eps

but when I download and save the .eps file, it saves on my computer as a .ps file (not .eps). What's up with that?

Isn't there a difference between .ps and .eps though?

It's all postscript language which is cross platform, if there is a difference it shouldn't affect the output of your file. It's much like JPG vs. JPEG what's the diff?

Here's some information for you http://www-cdf.fnal.gov/offline/PostScript/AdobePS.html
Apparently there is some difference but I don't think it's anything you need to worry about. Have you asked your designer about it?
