DV Camera - USB Interface
Im looking to purchase a DV camera and i see that they have 'usb' connections so u can stream them right into your computer. I realize they use USB2 and such, but if i were to get a wireless USB transmitter thingy, would it affect the quality of the video?

From personal experience.....I wouldn't use USB to "stream" video into a computer at all...With or without "a wireless USB transmitter thingy." :2 cents: |
hmm upon further review, i dont think this technology exists yet... all i can find are USB-Network adapters, not anything that can make a corded USB cable become wireless.

If you are simply trying to transmit audio and video to a computer via a wireless connection....Yes, it's possible....But the cost effective solutions I have seen do degrade the quality. Not a big deal if it is for a webcam show. |

right on.. i guess straight to DV would be the bestest way huh? or is it better to send to the smart card? |
change your sig and you might get an answer...yuck

na its not for streaming i was thinking of a way to get it into my hard drive instead of fuckin with all the DV tapes etc |

aaron is on top of shit |
you cant transfer video thru the usb , its for stills only i believe. get firewire
|
USB sucks, firewire is the only way to go for quality and time.
(and your sig sucks, it was the last straw that made me turn sig's off) |

You can control the camera from your pc and more, and the import is nice.. |

Wireless USb is in the works from a number of big companies. Regardless, USB is not what you should use. USB2.0 is fast enough, I think, but any video from device to computer should be done via Firewire. Any good dv camera will have this. Most will have both usb, and firwire. |

Bad idea. If you have the tape...You have a high quality master. If you just send the image to your HD and there is a hiccup.....You will end up with dropped frames and no original to get a clean copy from. |
in general, stick to tapes. however, you can capture from camera straigh to hard drive with this:
http://powerbook1.com/quickstreamdv/index.html i know some people using it now, and it seems to be kicking ass so far. |

anybody got any ideas how many minutes of video can be recorded on a 512 SD Memory Card or 1 GB?

Actually, doesn't matter, not much video unless it's low quality. |

dunno, just trying to figure out the logistics of how many tapes and shit to buy =)

Just go to ebay and bulk order 100 blanks. That's what I do. Now I never run out of tape and have to run to the store at the last minute. |
