I'm having a hard time finding a house to rent... Anyone else have this problem?

My area doesn't have very many house rentals available. I don't want/can't have an apartment and houses that are available are either in the ghetto or $1800-$2500+ a month, which is a ridiculous amount to spend on rent. I am willing to move out of my area, but it's hard to find listings online, because they are either outdated or scattered all over the place.

Anyone else have problems like this? I empathize with you if you do! :Oh crap If anyone has any links or tips for something like this, post them! :)

i found a house!

Evil1 01-26-2005 12:07 PM

renting is a complete waste of money.. buy.

jact 01-26-2005 12:09 PM

Try a local real estate agent, they don't generally advertise that they deal with rentals, but most will.

Yeah, I've gone that route... most don't have anything because they are selling houses like hotcakes. It's a nightmare :(

It's like that more and more...people thinking they can rent you a dinky little place and charge you a ridiculous price! I wish you much luck.

But seriously, keep thinking you will find excatly what your looking for and you will.

When we decided to move to Cancun we only wanted to be on the beach in a nice place, no ifs ands or butts. When we got here we realized that the ONLY place to live on the beach was the hotel zone ( which we didn't want to be near)or a little stretch of beach near Punta Sam, but the prices were so high. I kid you not, I went to the beach and just sat and thought .... "I will not give up, I will find just what I'm looking for" and I just kept that in my mind. A few days later we found a 3b 2ba condo right on the beach for $7000 pesos a month....that is only $630 or so USD! And it's not in the hotel zone!

Keep your chin up...and I'll send some positive energy your way too:)

Yeah, I know exactly what you mean... prices keep going up and the quality is going down. And people are stupid enough to keep paying it. I live in a rural area, it's not even a major city. I'm not paying $2000/month for something worth $800/month. Even apartments are $1000+... but I have several cats and need space for my computers.

That's an awesome deal you got! When I first saw $7000 I was like :eek7 until I read PESOS haha. I won't settle, I'll keep looking until I find the perfect place. Mexico here I come!!! hehe... thanks :)

I would suggest you go walk around an area you are interested in. Look for vacancy signs and write down the numbers. I did this once and brought my cell phone with me and called the numbers when I was right outside the places. I found the apartment i wanted and it had just came available the day before. This place had one of the best views in Vancouver and I took it right then and there, walked to the bank machine took out $1100 and grabbed it :)

I only have one cat now, but we brought him 4000 miles with us in the car! I wouldn't even consider a place that wouldn't let me have my cat :) And we sold everything EXCEPT the computers when we moved here...couln't live without them either! :1orglaugh

You'll find what your looking for....is there a time frame or do you just want to move?

Yeah, I'm not looking forward to transporting my cats lol. I don't have a date that I have to move by, but I need to get out of where I am. There's no broadband available... I only have dial up or my satellite which SUCKS. So I need to find a place ASAP... but at the same time, I don't want the first thing that comes along, because that's how I got in the position I'm in now lol.

I agree. Buy one house, then use the equity and savings to buy another, and again, and again.

sweetME 01-26-2005 01:00 PM

You can rent an apartment with a roomate. That's an option you can consider if you can find someone disent to share an apartment.

Tala 01-26-2005 01:06 PM

There are rentals all over the place out here, but then, there's a reason for that. The cost of living out here is insanely cheap, (thankfully), and that's because no one wants to live here. :)

A bank wouldn't give me a free pen much less a mortgage right now LOL I have taxes, a judgement and lots of other debts to pay off first. Trust me, I'm not a fan of renting but I'm sort of stuck in the cycle at the moment.

Sosa 01-26-2005 01:23 PM

kinda same position i'm in right now. I'd buy if the right house came up for sale though. There is hardly shit to rent and if they do open up they are usually trashed by college kids.

Jace 01-26-2005 01:25 PM

you need to find a site like this

http://www.rentlist.net/

we used that here in Atlanta and got a 3 bedroom, 2.5 bath, .5 acre backyard with closed porch...for $900 a month

OMG :eek7 this site is awesome!! You will never see a site like this for listings in NY... I'm moving down there! My uncle lives in Lithnia... I can't believe how many nice, reasonably priced houses they have available! That's great, I am going to find something here. Thank you! :)

Thankfully no! The judgement is $5k for a 5 year old electric bill that they tacked on insane attorney and interest fees for.

CherryLipsRosa 01-26-2005 02:28 PM

The best thing is take a day and drive around, you will find places that have a sign but are not listed.

Good luck!

Good, I'm glad that it isn't anything *too* serious.

You've been living in your current place for quite a while now haven't you?

I remember pictures of a bubble bath and an afterschool computer lab. :1orglaugh

You'll find something.

Best of luck.

flashfire 01-26-2005 02:38 PM

ROFL@bubble bath and afterschool computer lab... OMG I totally forgot about those pics haha. Geez, yeah that was 2 years ago... I've been here for almost 3 years... I shouldn't have stayed as long as I did but lesson learned. I can't wait to move! :)
