Is CNN now more respectable worldwide since the rise of Fox news?

I stopped watching those channels a long time ago... For me it's only BBC :p

I don't watch 'em either. I prefer to read the news.

I do see fox here, but I never watch it. Curiously enough I don't watch cnn nor bbc either although I see 'em all.

I gotta admit that I did watch cnn when the planes hit wtc.

I'm asking from the point of non-americans really. A little history here. A few years ago many in the world were saying that CNN is - as you put it for Fox - "totally biased crap news". Then with the rise of Fox news the standard shifted to the American right and the same thing is now said of Fox news but not so much about CNN.

News is biased. It's all a matter of perspective and where you are in the political spectrum. American conservatives think Fox is just telling it like it is. When I watch Canadian news I think it is biased left.

Perhaps it's a question of how much bias? I'd say CNN is much more subtle than FOX

Where I live we can recieve CNN but no fox.
Maybe 1% of the dutch population watches it sometimes.
We prefer other stations.

Dunno why but I sort of prefer news originating from reuters, and I mostly read my news instead of watch.

In most European countries I have lived and visited, CNN International is the channel they know.
As far as respect, since a lot of European networks are trying to emulate the CNN model, I guess there must be some respect, plus CNNI is really some British channel more than anything else.
During my last trip in France, I saw a piece on Fox News by some French reporter based in New York, he was comparing Fox News to nazi controlled Radio back in 1938 Germany :disgust

I used to have the newspaper clippings of the German invasion of France (gave them to MikeAi as an XMas gift). Now THAT was good journalism.

I am sick of the biased news thats why I get a feed from ap and rueters...

I agree that Fox does tend to slant to the right. BUT....

when it comes to turning NEWS into ENTERTAINMENT, no one can beat Fox. They turn almost every bit of news item into a modern day morality play pitting "evil big government pot smoking liberals" on one hand against "hard working, common sense practicing, small town values conservatives" on the other side.

It is no surprise that Fox is beating the tar out of its competitors.... They zero in on a mental habit or hook of the majority of Americans and manage to entertain, outrage, and 'inform' ... all at the same time. This is tabloid TV at its finest. Remember, Rupert Murdoch made his initial money from tabloid papers.

There's no room for nuance, irony, or postmodernism...

Good point. You can watch Fox to be entertained. You can watch Michael Moore to be entertained. Just don't take either one too seriously.

I watch The Daily Show for all my fake news. ;))

Until news channels stop catering to ratings to dictate what they show and how much they show, all news will be shit.

CNN is still far more recignized worldwide than Fox News.

Let's just put it this way, I don't watch Canadian news channels for Canadian political information either.

we can't see fox news here. and for some reason I'm not missing it.
