If you want to use the 18th century definition of the word. The term "democracy" has broadened quite a bit in the past three centuries or so. Many of the founders of the US, for example, used the term disparagingly whereas today its common usage is to refer to nations with representational government. Even as early as the 19th century we had de Tocqueville's classic "Democracy in America".

What's there not to understand about communism? I find some of Marx' criticisms - for example- to be very worthy however he popularized a system that was in the end, inferior. He focused on history through the lens of class struggle but ignored fundamental psychology. In essence, he ignored the nature and causes of the wealth of nations.

Capitalism has won and countries like China are succeeding the more they adapt western free market ideals.

Yes, Marx said that and what has happened is that capitalism and democracy have grown, spead and strengthened. It was a failed prediction of his. Don't confuse their failures with ours. Capitalism has been strong and building for many centuries. Democracy has spead from about three countries to 2/3 of the world in about a quarter millenium. The writing is on the wall. Need glasses?
