What to do to a bunch of hotlinkers
 

should i put up a page saying "You cannot download this without a valid email" and collect email addresses? try to send them to a email sponsor? install a toolbar? what would be the best.. (per signup doesnt work well)

the best thing to do is the nice thing. you won't get anywhere by fucking with potential customers.

Use a jpg of a super hot girl and some text that says:

"We're truly sorry, but we just can't spare the bandwidth to link you right now.
There's a good chance the file you're looking for is still on our website: www.myst.com thanks."

If hotlinkers were making you money you wouldn't be posting about this now would you?

Direct them straight to a sponsor signup page or tour or redirect them to the homepage of your site and keep the traffic.

installing toolbars would be bad?

per-signup will not work, these assholes dont buy shit, they get my movies from forums posting hundreds of these
