Any vegetarians here? I've been trying for 4 days now and...

I feel so weak. Im just eating fruits and vegetables and nuts and im so out of energy. Is that the way you always feel or does that pass? I wont eat tofu, I dont like it.

And the gas has been horrible I've been blasting like a rhino, does that pass or is it always like that? Its really bad. Thank God I work alone.

sickkittens 01-25-2005 08:58 AM

There's alot more to eat than just fruits and veggies, my friend.

SpaceAce 01-25-2005 09:00 AM

You need to make sure you are educated. In order to really be healthy andmaintain strength and vigor, you have to eat the right things and building your diet up to the appropriate level takes a lot of work. I have never personally tried to be a vegetarian but I have relatives who are and it's not easy, at least at first

It's all about motivation. There's no way I could ever eat meat again. I still eat dairy but I've even cut back and watched what I eat to make sure my diet isn't messed up.

Pornopat 01-25-2005 09:03 AM

I have been a vegetarian for 15 years now.
Your body is adjusting. Its normal that your shit smells really bad for some time. I do not remember gass though. This might be a result from all the fruit you are eating. I also dont remember feeling weak. Are you eating enough? Meat has more calories as fruit does...So you should eat extra.
There is more then tofu as alternative. Just go to the supermarket and check out the vegetarian section.
Millions have gone before you and survived...:)

(btw..Serena Williams and her sister are vegetarians..they have lots of energy)

sickkittens 01-25-2005 09:04 AM

Also, get a vegetarian cookbook. You'll be surprised at how many good meals you can make with ingredients you eat often.

Alot of people do it just after visiting http://www.peta.org/.

Tera 01-25-2005 09:19 AM

I used to be a vegetarian and I ate tofu.. there is many ways to cook it, if you don't like it though try this stuff called tempeh, you can cook a lot of stuff with it, and it's really good for you and good tasting too. Also get a vegetarian cook book there is lots of other things to eat besides fruits and nuts and veggies... educate yourself and explore different things.

The gas is normal for now :) It will go away...

sickkittens 01-25-2005 09:19 AM

Although alot claim they will in front of everyone and never do a thing about it.

Eating just fruits, vegetables, and nuts sounds like a tiring diet, and somewhat nutritionally unbalanced. I don't think many vegetarians could relate to that diet - it is vegetarian, but that's nothing like what most vegetarians eat. The fruits you're eating are probably giving you sugar highs and lows, leading to the lack of energy. If you want to stabilize that, eat some carbs that take your body longer to metabolize, to better regulate your energy level. Or eat very small portions very frequently.

Nuts give some people gas, so that's the likely cause, or legumes/beans if you're eating those as some of your vegetables. Most fruits, leaves, and roots would be unlikely to cause significant gas.

One thing you typically won't get from a vegetarian diet, even with grain-based carbs, is the long-lasting fullness you can get from fat-rich meats.

If you're not being careful about the nutrient balance of your diet, and you're going to be eating like this for more than a couple weeks, you should really be taking some supplements, particularly calcium and iron. You can get both minerals in various vegetables, but you could easily miss them if you're not targetting them specifically.

Nothing can stop me from eating meat. If i couldnt buy it i would roast a fucking cat. My body needs meat, actually all humans need meat. Almost all animals in the world kill yet humans think theyre smart think they dont need to eat meat. Fucked up if you ask me. Animals kill as well for food, why the hell would you stop killing animals for food?

In other words, you cant deny the fact that you need meat. Stop being a retard and eat a steak...

This is ridiculous!

Because I have the choice. But I'm not the one to tell you how to live. Some people are extreme. I care more about animal rights, personally.

I see some very insecure people here.
Why do you feel threathened by people refusing to eat meat?
How about you eat your meat and I dont and we both allow each others way of live without being narrowminded?

You dont live in the USA. So no peta telling you not to eat meat.

:thumbsup Well said.

I hardly ever eat meat but I'm not a vegetarian. You can eat a ton of different Mexican dishes. Go buy some vegetarian refried beans (no animal fat used in cooking thme), some cheese, lettuce, tomato, salsa, tortilla, taco sauce, jalapenos, etc. and make yourself some kick ass bean burritos.

Or hell...go to Taco Bell and let them do it for you. They have some good stuff with no meat in it...like their tostada, bean burrito, etc.

Veggie pizzas are good. Umm...a nice big salad with artificial bacon bits, cheese, honey mustard, croutons. Are you still eating eggs or have you cut them out too? If you are eating eggs...that opens up another whole world of dishes.

jt420 01-25-2005 12:56 PM

dude try more tofu. its really hard to dislike it because it more or less takes on the flavors of what its cooked with.

Alot of Mexican restaurants use lard in their beans and tortillas though, so be sure to research first.

Taco Bell doesn't.

Tofu Stir Fry is very good. Again, get a veggie cookbook.

jojo55 01-25-2005 12:59 PM

I would take some protein shakes if I were you.

ArkansasDave 01-25-2005 12:59 PM

I only eat animals that are vegetarians, so therefore I am vegetarian.

sweetME 01-25-2005 05:03 PM

It's very hard in the begining, since your body and your system are making adjustments. It'll be easier maybe in a month or two, but you really need to get a vegetarian guide or something to help you get through this easier.
