Okay my first impression - where the fuck is Enternal Sunshine Of The Spotless Mind on this list? One for winslet but totally blanked for best actor and best film?!

they have a nomination for Original Screenplay, but Kate definately deserved a nomination for her part

Violetta 01-25-2005 06:56 AM

THE INCREDIBLES :thumbsup

DomBuyer 01-25-2005 06:56 AM

Catalina Sandino Moreno from MARIA FULL OF GRACE should win. Great movie, incredible performance.

Though Kate Winslett was pretty damn amazing in Eternal Sunshine.

If Aviator wins best picture over Clint's "Baby", it'll just cement the Academy as a the joke that it is. Aviator is second rate Scorsese.

Oh, I agree. It is one of the few parts she has played where I didn't dislike her at all. She very much deserves to be nominated but for me it also deserves a place in Best Picture and Jim deserves a nod too...especially after they blanked him for The Truman Show too.

MARIA FULL OF GRACE was an awesome movie

Jim Carrey was definately playing great, but I'm not sure if he deserved an nomination. That would mean that one of the other actors couldn't get a nomination, and I wouldn't know who to replace.

The movie does deserve a place in Best Picture

hova 01-25-2005 07:06 AM

It's a good thing that The Motorcycle Diaries have been nominated, very nice movie!

Dirty Dane 01-25-2005 07:09 AM

omg.... Leonardo DiCaprio - THE AVIATOR
?
?
?

shit, I've seen much better perfomances. Those nominations are a joke :upsidedow

Marcus Aurelius 01-25-2005 07:12 AM

I'd like to see jamie foxx sweep the categories he is in. :thumbsup

Sarah_Jayne 01-25-2005 07:12 AM

Okay, so much of this is politics so yo don't even have to see the actual films sometimes to know who is going to win.

I still have some films to see because not all of them have been out in the UK yet but here are my guesses so far for the biggies:

ACTOR IN A LEADING ROLE

Johnny Depp - FINDING NEVERLAND - it is his time and Hollywood wants to reward him for going 'mainstream' with his films. Clint might be the darkhorse here for similar reasons.

ACTOR IN A SUPPORTING ROLE

Jamie Foxx - COLLATERAL - for not getting it for 'Ray'

ACTRESS IN A LEADING ROLE

Kate Winslet - ETERNAL SUNSHINE OF THE SPOTLESS MIND - Because they blanked the rest of the cast and she is nominated twice for the BAAFTAs so a lot of academy people that are British would have seen her performance and they will block vote.

ACTRESS IN A SUPPORTING ROLE

Natalie Portman - CLOSER - Hardest category for me to call but going with her because she was also decent in Garden State this year and Hollywood loves her at the moment.

ANIMATED FEATURE FILM

THE INCREDIBLES - It just will.

CINEMATOGRAPHY

THE PASSION OF THE CHRIST - easy way out

DIRECTING

MILLION DOLLAR BABY - It is Clint, there is buzz, he will win.

DOCUMENTARY FEATURE

SUPER SIZE ME - Firstly, I wish I could actually see most of these films BEFORE the awards because I love documentires. However, this will win simply because it has the 'Micheal Moore' factor in that it made money and people have actually heard of it. Like, with Bowling For Columbine, there will be something else in the list that is actually better (Spellbound when it was against Moore) but I won't get the chance to see it for years.

MUSIC (SCORE)

THE PASSION OF THE CHRIST - Again, easy award to give without seeming preachy.

BEST PICTURE

MILLION DOLLAR BABY - Too much buzz not to happen.

WRITING (ORIGINAL SCREENPLAY)

ETERNAL SUNSHINE OF THE SPOTLESS MIND - Nothing more than wishful thinking on my part.

loco12 01-25-2005 07:17 AM

After Return Of The King Last year, this lot is a bucket load of mediocrity.
Just my opinion.

TheLegacy 01-25-2005 07:18 AM

your implying that the voting can be fixed?? thank god that doesnt happen in other events like the porn industry

Sarah_Jayne 01-25-2005 07:32 AM

The power of suggestion is a strong influence, I would suggest.

I agree, Jim Carrey in that movie may have been the best acting I've seen. Unbelievable that he didn't even get a nomination.

Glad someone agrees...I think he was fantastic in it.

flashfire 01-25-2005 03:13 PM

I havent seen very many of those, have some movies to watch I guess

candyflip 01-25-2005 03:14 PM

Johnny got the nomination girl. I'm hoping that you're right on with your prediction. :thumbsup

sweetME 01-25-2005 03:56 PM

I think Aviator will win the best movie and Leonardo DeCaprio will win the best actor. Although Johnny Depp is my baby, I vote for Leo this time, he did a great job in that movie. I suggest to see Aviator for those who didn't see it yet.

Me too...sort of disapointed it will be for something mainstream but it is better than not at all.
