Neighbors house burnt down this morning

Woke up this morning to fire trucks and ambulances all over my street. The house two doors down was going up in a puff of smoke.

The family that owned the house lost everything!

I helped them the best I could with lots of clothes, coats, hats, and bedding. I bought the mom a pair of new sneaks this afternoon..she didnt have a coat or shoes.

The insurance company is doing a great job, the redcross showed up to help too..but they cant replace everything this family lost.

If any of you are feeling generous and want some good karma to come your way.. now is your time..

I am going to collect for them for the next few days and see what I am able to give. If any of you want to donate a few dollars via paypal, that would be fantastic..if you cant, I understand.. no excuses needed.

you can e-mail me for the pay pal addy at betty at bettylove dot com.

Big thanks in advance!!

All of this happened last Monday: my dad got really sick and had to be admitted to the ICU; my friend's 8 year old daughter died unexpectedly; my mom's secretary went out of town and left her husband and 18 yo daughter at home, the 18 yo woke up around noon and found him dead in the bed.

This was all taking place while we were at the hospital trying to get my dad checked in. Every time the phone rang, it was literally something life changing. My aunt made the comment, "I'm just waiting on someone to call and tell me my house burned down." Not 10 mins later, my grandmother walks in and says my cousin's house is on fire and burning to the ground and there's nothing they can do about it. Her 5 yo and 9 yo boys were playing in the garage and the oldest one brought a gas can in (no one knew he had it). The 5 yo knocked it over, it ran over to the water heater, and the whole thing blew up. They all got out, but they lost *everything*. They stayed at my house for 3 days since I was at the hospital the whole time. Luckily, they had good insurance so it's paying to put them up in a nice hotel until they get situated.

I hope your friends had good insurance. :(

reynold 01-24-2005 06:08 PM

Oh that's too bad. Good thing they had insurance. :(

TiGrrPrr 01-24-2005 06:11 PM

Not to be morbid, but how about posting some pics? I took pics of a friends condo fire per her request, wicked how the fridge handles melted into dagger shape.

Holly 01-24-2005 06:15 PM

Thanks Betty and Sherie. My dad came home today so that's all good and the two funerals were last week so hopefully things will be smooth sailing from here on out.

I'm glad your friends were insured. I always have a hard time with insurance companies and think they're all pricks, but so far the one my cousin uses has been really good to them and very sympathetic/helpful with their situation. Hopefully your neighbors will have a similar experience.

TiGrrPrr 01-24-2005 06:19 PM

The family and/or pets were all safe? Who is in the family / kids ages?

TiGrrPrr 01-24-2005 06:20 PM

Very sorry to hear that Holly. You take care. :(

the first thing that popped into my head was to grab the vid and digicam and start fiilming.. but seeing the family standing in the rain devastated .I could not do that to them...I would kill a motherfucker for that.

Its dark out now, and the house is a big three story house.. its been closed off with yellow tape and the windows were borded up and the big hole in the roof is borded up... but I will be happy to take a pic of outside the house tomorrow when its a bit more quieted down here, but I am not going inside.. its too dangerous with the second and third floors weakened.
