Big Tobacco Chalks Up Another Victim.......Johnny Carson

Carson smoked much of his life, died from emphysema

"The long-time smoker was 79 and had announced in 2002 that he was suffering from the disease."

Good thing I quit.

Ya, i'm sure Carson never had a choice in his smoking. Damn the tobacco companies strapping him down and forcing smoke into his lungs.

dicknixon 01-23-2005 02:16 PM

Not like I'm some pro-smoking advocate or something . . . but Carson was 79 . . If I make it to 79 without smoking I'll be happy.

It's amazing how everyone who smoked, even if they'd quit decades earlier, is a "victim of the tobacco companies" when they die in their 70s or 80s....once upon a time, people used to die of "old age"....

Carson smoked his most of his whole life however

jukeboxfrank 01-23-2005 02:36 PM

I bet if he did not smoke he would have lived 20 maybe 30 mins longer.

evildick 01-23-2005 02:53 PM

George Burns also died of smoking cigars. Sad to see him go at such a young age.

Funny how people wish to extend there lives.

Ya call it living, but living is not about a contained life living in fear.

Jhnny Carson lived a bigger life than any one that posts here or anywhere else.
79 Aint so bad, targeting tobacco companies to place the blame is a "political" ploy.

As usual people will suck it up hok line and sinker.

Mozart lived a short life also, so did Buddy Holly, so did Elvis, so did Jim Morrison, Jimi Hendrix and so many others. They lived the way they wanted for the most part, and the way they lived, and the choices they made should be respected. Not be a slant to discourage choice, which is an inherent aspect of FREEDOM.

People placing blame is another guise for others to place restriction on freedom you fucken morons...

nnweb 01-23-2005 03:00 PM

Walt Disney was a chain smoker.

Not sure what he died of though...

AlienQ - BANNED FOR LIFE 01-23-2005 03:12 PM

People that live the way they do make choices and the way they make those choices and what they accomplish is based on the way they have chosen to live.

Would Johnny been as funny if he were a non smoker?
Would Walt Disney, Jackie Gleason and others done what they had if they were a smoker or not?

I doubt they would have because each based there lives on the choices they made and chose to give us all and share with us all there thoughts and abilities. Wishing they were around longer with the ultimatim of giving up a freedom ya think they would have done what they did? I do not think so.
You change one thing about how a person chooses to live you take the chance of altering history. Stripping away choices alter the way things play out and stifles a process.

Imagine if Smoking pot were legal! Imagine how many potential people that could have made history if the way they lived was an acceptable life style or at least a legal one...

Nevermind...
You people are fucking idiots and just dont get it, but I am merely pointing out that some people are ready to set blame for things to restrict your choices in life. Again most of you are all to ready to suck up the loss of freedom its mind staggering.
Stupid people will inheret the earth.

Just for the record, this post was a joke. George Burns was like 100 when he died.

:)
