FUCKING DOTSTER... I need a new domain registrar :(

A week with Dotster:

1. Lost one of my domains at Dotster without getting any notification e-mails from them. Did I get it back? - see #3 :disgust

2. Without giving me an option to decline Dotster added .info domains matching the .com domains in my account AND put the Dotster account ownership info into the .info domain whois INSTEAD of matching whois data with .com domains - fucking retards.

3. I am still waiting for replies to support messages I submitted on monday and tuesday this week. very frustrating.

Am I the only one here being lately very disappointed in Dotster?

Any recommendations for a quality domain registrar are highly appreciated. Thanks.

Sleazy loves Dotster as well....

Relish XXX 01-23-2005 09:28 AM

Use Directnic www.directnic.com we have loads of domains with them and they rock. Actually we have moved a few over to www.coolness.com as they are awesome and cheaper.

SeniorX 01-23-2005 09:28 AM

I just discovered www.dotstersucks.com is already taken, I wonder why.

EyesWideShut 01-23-2005 09:30 AM

wow they've been on a roll lately haven't they!

jacked 01-23-2005 09:31 AM

go with www.nomanix.com haven't had any problems with them ever

tungsten 01-23-2005 09:34 AM

namecheap.com is good as well

Mr Dickovitch 01-23-2005 09:40 AM

Suddenly I am on the dotster email list but I have never bought a domain from there. Maybe someone stole one of my domains and moved it there? When you try to logon there with the email they force you to enter the domain so there is no way to tell. Those mother fuckers.
I went through all my domains and they seem to all be OK.

SeniorX 01-23-2005 09:41 AM

I haven't gone with DirectNic because of their retarded trouble ticket page - topic, short description, detailed description. I can only imagine what their members are looks like.

Nomanix looks the best design-wise atm. but I haven't heard of them before, will do some more research.

What about www.register.com - anyone has experience with them? They seem to have a support phone # on the main page, that's always a good sign.

one person highly recommended GoDaddy compared to Dotster, are they any good?

jawanda 01-23-2005 09:54 AM

www.namecheap.com is awesome! cheap, never had a problem, good service, free whoisguard.

The Heron 01-23-2005 09:59 AM

Directnic is for pimps

SeniorX, several other people have had major problems with Dotster lately, you're not alone.

I'd strongly disrecommend Godaddy. They're huge, but will disable domain names at the registry level based on accusations of spamming or other activity. Even if you don't do that, false accusations can occur, and I don't think it's worth jeopardizing your business with an unnecessary risk like that.

Directnic has a lot of fans, but lost a domain to hijackers last week; I haven't heard any details other than the owners claim that it was due to Directnic's gross negligence.

Rui 01-23-2005 10:21 AM

Godaddy all the way :)

register.com is good...but expensive. I forgot to renew one of my domains and within an hour they had it back for me..so they're good in that regard.

I use powerpipe.com for majority of my domains. Stargate.com for a few of them

triumph 01-23-2005 10:29 AM

I have tried every registrar, and by far, enom is the best!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

You may want to do a little research and look at the shit people have with godaddy too. It makes any directnic problems look tiny in comparison.

Personally I love directnic. Not the cheapest but flexible, an interface which works fine and very responsive should you ever need help.

http://www.directnic.com :thumbsup

I have to agree 100%.

Namecheap would rank #2 on my list, and by no coincidence, they are an Enom reseller.

:)

xclusive 01-23-2005 10:51 AM

I've never had a problem with godaddy or namecheap

jimmyf 01-23-2005 10:59 AM

Verio does domain's now I might try them..

I use there hosting and it's very good..

SeniorX 01-23-2005 11:15 AM

enom's too expensive at $29.95 for bulk.... will give directnic a try then, same price as dotster, hopefully better quality. thanks for all the feedback.

eNom's reseller pricing is more like $6.50 or $7 in bulk (quantity 1000, I think?), but I can't find any prices listed now (used to be easy to find). I'm moving domains away from them, as I consider their underlying software fundamentally flawed, and their response to bugs and support requests careless and inadequate. However, their bulk pricing is very competitive, and their user interface is very good if you don't have a lot of domains. (It breaks down when you get too many.)

What -- I can't believe no one mentioned Network Solutions -- I dont think I have ever had a problem with them, although they're not the cheapest and their interface is not the best your domain is definitely secure

XpressMedia 01-23-2005 01:10 PM

I use Godaddy.com for all domain registering.

Fatalspeed 01-23-2005 01:40 PM

... I will never use Dotster after hearing all the shit about them lately

sexdwarf 01-23-2005 02:05 PM

i've had problems with dotster for years... one of my domains mysteriously got moved to the CEO's contact info... never got my oney back, never got my domain back... i had contacted ICANN about it and never heard back from them... eventually got over it and moved to a different registrar...

They've given me bigger problems than anyone else in the past. As for security...there's at least one very big domain who'd argue that even if secure now they certainly haven;t always been so. :2 cents:
