Don't waste money on 3G: CellGuy's Mobile Madness II
 

Another update for those looking to know how mobile might impact the adult space...

1) A well respected Consumer magazine in Europe - Which? - is advising consumers not to waste their money on fancy 3G kit. It cites limited network coverage and "problems accessing 3G services successfully and consistently" as solid reasons to stick with 2G. Network issues and bulky handsets contributed to the technology's poor performance in Which? tests.

Seems the Hype outsells the reality though as 3G phone penetration is growing....

2) They haven't even got 3G right yet and they're now working on Super 3G! 100x faster than 3G and set to trial in Europe in 2005/2006.

3) But will WiMAX take 3G's market share? For those who aren't familiar WiMAX offers true wide-area WIFI coverage - up to 60 km. With handsets now been released as WiFi enabled its anyones guess who will win the connectivity wars - the carriers with 3G or fixed line operators with WIFI gateways. Either way its great news for the adult industry - more bandwidth = greater end user experience = greater retention = + profits.

You are aware most new 3G cells don't offer only 3G as a selling point? good

Reference was to 3g handsets not cell sites.....we know that most consumers swing between 2g & 3g use on the same handset - think the point they are tryting to make is that 3g handsets dont cut it yet - even if some are cheaper on voice tarrfif than 2g tarrifs!!

3G just plain sucks :thumbsup

the operators are in big trouble though because they paid a lot of $$$ for the licenses, I guess they will recoup it some how even if it means higher prices for voice/text
