DOH !

Invalid Windows Product Key
Unfortunately the key that you used to install Windows matches one on a list of known invalid Product Keys. There are two likely reasons for this:

Microsoft Anti-Spyware is not a bad piece of software. Caught some files that the other one's couldn't.

SteveLightspeed 01-22-2005 09:19 AM

We had one machine that I had given up on --- the MS spyware tool got it all cleaned up.

Look at the bottom of all our site's tours. We are encouraging our surfers to use it too. I don't think all spyware is evil, but it has certainly been abused by some people. Time to clean up the mess they've created.

You don't actually need a bona fide copy of Windows to run it. You can choose not to run the verifier if you don't want to.

all programs are going to find something that the other ones didn't. Microsoft spyware remover is just another program that they bought from a company. It was called "Giant" before. We use it at the store once in a while if Spybot and Ad-aware don't fix the customers problems.

All 3 are good programs

asuna 01-22-2005 10:19 AM

it took out my whole kazaa folder :(

Spunky 01-22-2005 11:24 AM

It's o.k. for a free program although it really doesn't do much for me.I would pay for a program like BPS if you want to effectively remove shit.I run BPS every day it and it finds atleast 20 instances and Microsoft doesn't find any

h0st 01-22-2005 11:28 AM

Naughty, I'm also a fan of Microsoft's anti-spyware. I have been trying for ages to get rid of a program that 180solutions.com placed on my computer. Every time I do a search on the internet, this spyware junk throws up a box with a site that they believe is similar to my search. I contacted them, and they refused to help me get rid of it. In fact, these assholes are being touted as a millionaire company on the rise. You would be surprised to know the legitimate companies that are using this spamming invasive piece of crap.

Microsoft's software got rid of it, at least for now. 180solutions is like Joesho,
it keeps popping up and bugging the shit out of you just when you think you have eliminated it.

darkember 01-22-2005 01:15 PM

I've run Spysweeper from Webroot for about a year and a half now and have to say its the best I know of but I"m trying this MS one out now to see how it goes, thanks for the links. For those of you that have things that won't get clean, have you run your anti-spyware programs while in safe mode? There are some things that just won't clean while its resident and it will say cleaned but upon reboot just restarts or reinstalls itself.....just throwing that out as an fyi.

I do have to give a :thumbsup for the process lister in the advanced tools, having the programs identified in detail is a nice feature in the MS one.

e-god 01-22-2005 01:23 PM

it looks like Giant AntiSpyware

Furious_Male 01-22-2005 01:35 PM

Oddly enough it wont set up on this machine. Says I need MSIE 6.0 which I have.

haha true it is. While this MS antispyware is running, look in the task manager and you'll see the process "GIANTAntiSpywareMain.exe" running.
