I recommand Seagate!
|
I'm a big Seagate fan now.

niceeeeeee |
Stay away from IBM DeskStar or Hitachi Deskstar. Go with Maxtor or Seagate.
Maxtor has a nice 16MB Cache 250 Gig SATA drive for 179 at Frys right now... Just bought a few today. |
Running 2 250gig harddrives on a RAID, so it's one big ass 500gig HD...Maxtor and I have no problems
|
Juicy, you can get a 200Gig for like $100 - 103 at a computer show... there is gonna be one at the Meadowlands Expo center in NJ on February 5th - 6th. Bring cash and bargain with the chinese.
|
WD's are the best. I would go with the 250gigers they have, very quite also.
|
Seagate & WD make sure to go SATA

This is good advice. I linked the WD 250GB above. I have 2 in my PC and 1 in my Xbox and never had a problem. They are quit and last. I have my Xbox operating as a FTP server and the drive in it has probably operated for 10,000 hours already. |
I would go with a Maxtor. Seagate is good also.
|
How about a HUGE INTERNAL CUMSHOT??
|
Seagate!
|
Why just 2? We use 4 HDs in our PCs here with 1 HD for programs etc, 2 HDs for file data and auto back-up running twice a day onto the 4th HD. If you have a lot of important stuff on your HDs an internal back-up HD is *much* faster than an external back-up drive. :2 cents:
|
i reccomend that terabyte external. fuck internal drives.
|
I prefer Seagate, mainly for the quietness.
|
I thought ya just needed a "Huge Internal".
SIgh... |
Hitachi is releasing some new 500GB hdd's with 100GB platters and 16MB cache and most of SATA2 specs ;) maybe you should look into one of those

The only raid worth IMHO is RAID5, safe and fast (a bit more expensive its true but, hey nothing is free nowadays) |

That's kind of funny. Raid doesnt double your hard drive space, it mirrors it. so 500 gigs in raid 0-10 = 250 gigs of useable space. I guess we can tell who knows wtf theyre talking about here. |
|
I just bought a WD 250gb HD, its awesome, WD is the top dog for HD's.

Raid is raid, software or hardware, you dont double your hard drive space with raid.
Learn what it is, and quit throwing around terms you think will make you look cooler. If all he did was SLAVE a hard drive to another hard drive then that sure as fuck isnt raid. It's called slaving a hard drive. Using a promise card to slave a hard drive is still slaving a hard drive. "Raid" is the striping or mirriroring of a hard drive. Hence you have 250 gigs of storage, adding another 250 gigs with Raid0-10 would still only give you 250 gigs of storage with a 250 gig mirrored backup. WTF do you think raid is man. Good thing you guys don't run any webhosting. |
You can't go wrong with seagate normally.
I'm really happy with my 400 gigs |
Forgot internal, go for a Lacie 1 terabtye drive with Firewire800, its faster than normal harddrives as they are 2 500gig 5.25 inch drives raid 0 together so they both run at the same time ripping data. My video editors use them and they are FAST.
They also have 1.6 terabtye ones as well. And 500gig ones that are a lot cheaper |

Go with WD if you want quality.
Maxtor... You get what you pay for. |
maxtor all the way
|

If any of the drives fail then the entire array is toast. You cannot recover meaningful data when sector 1 of the array is on the first physical drive, and sector 2 is on the second physical drive... |

I would check again. Raid can be the sum total of all available HD space or it can also be configured as a mirror. Depends how you set it up or stripe it. :2 cents: |
i hate maxtor drives them pos's. been replacing a lot of them lately at work. I would recommend seagate
|
get a western digital hard drive
