how it important is it to use wep on my wireless network
I had 128 bit wep but now im adding my wife to the network so putting in all those number and letters is a pain in the ass. If file sharing isnt enabled and im in the middle of subria is it that important or can I leave it off like when you go into a place that offers free wifi

i don't use it
i just enable the "Wireless Card Access List" feature...only the computers that are registerd on my router by mac address can access my network |
It depends, do you think your wifi network extends beyond your property?
If you live in a house in the middle of the forest, it's not really necessary If you live in an apartment in Manhattan, NY it's a lot more necessary |
I use it, it doesn't hurt.

Its not just about someone accessing your network, its about someone being able to monitor your internet activity. It takes 5 minutes to lock down a network I don't understand why anyone would leave it unsecure. BTW, WEP is easily exploited, WPA is the better way to go.

If you don't use it, it's easy to sniff your network (get passwords and everything else you don't want to share with people). Enable it.

doesnt matter, takes something like 30 seconds to crack a wep key ;)

but do you want someone stealing your bandwidth to, say, hack the government?
