SEO - move content to new domain without loosing se positions/traffic?

Ok, I have some subpages I wanted to move to another domain, thing is I don't really wish to loose all the search engine traffic such pages are getting.

What is the best way to move it without loosing the index's (keep in mind the move can be phased and there is no hurry)

Cheers

I think, google registers domain names, not the content of the website, in its database. You can redirect your SE traffic, but I think you cannot just replace the domain name that is indexed at googles database.

I know that, thing is none of the content that I wanted to have moved is hardcoded into the domain name used (if you know what I mean).

My idea was that a "we moved here" sort of page wouldn't be bad and eventually traffic would pickup again...any input on this is very appreciatted!
