Does Spamhaus have any power?
Who are these idiots? Is this just a group of people with no lives who should be fighting cp instead of spam or is this an official company who can take legal action against spammers? Why do they do it? Why are they so concerned about other peoples business?
Now dont get me wrong, i dont like getting spam in my mailbox and if im getting too much from 1 person and he wont let me opt out then i report him to his sponsors or host or whatever. But companies like spamhaus simply freak me out...they try to control everything and everybody so im really wondering, can they and are they allowed to do what they do? |
Well , if you really want to know, read up on the history of the better business bureau.
Not that they can be compared, but it might help you understand the reasoning behind whom they are. Most of the accusations they make are true , but how they tie them together leaves alot to be desired. They tend to follow a lead forever , so if someone did something bad at one point anyone involved with them from then on out is guilty to them. |

Alot of isps use them as a mail filter.
Meaning if you have your block C blocked by them.. your going to run into alot of problems emailing anywhere. |
like it was said before some ISP's use them as a spam filter. I had a host a couple of years ago that had problems with them . It seems one of the people that had a server with this host spammed. They were caught and the site and server were shut down. But spamhaus listed Every IP this host had. So all of a sudden some of my emails are bouncing. The host ended up getting a new batch of IP's that weren't listed there. So they do have some power.

They don't have legal power really, just filtering power. Pay $10,000 a month to spamhaus and you can have your servers whitelisted. Spamcop will do it for $20,000 a month. Maybe now that i don't spam i should let the anti spam community have a peek at the banking statments??
