Assholes Hijacked Domains From Antihotlinking.com

It has come to our attention that approximately 2 days ago one of our domains has been stolen due to severe negligence on the part of our domain registrant DirecNic. This domain was used for license authorization of AHL (AntiHotLinker). Thus, for those clients who restarted their Apache web server in the last 2 days AHL has stopped protecting movies.

Rest assured that this issue does not bring up any security issue for either your server or our clients database. Furthermore, while AHL stopped protecting movies it has no impact on the way your movies are displayed for legitimate viewers. AHL is simply looking at all requests, determines those requests that need to be denied but does not deny them. Again, this is only the case for those who restarted their Apache webserver. For those who did not, AHL works as usual until the Apache will be restarted.

To solve this issue we have prepared a new version of AHL. This version will solve the current issue and will enable AHL on your servers. In addition we added a cool feature requested by our clients in the past. You will now be able to see last 10 hotlinking requests with hotlinking URL (if available) and hotlinker's IP when pull up AHL status page.

If you want to upgrade to the new version yourself, please feel free to login to you account at
http://www.antihotlinking.com/customers/

As always, we offer free installation or upgrade as in this case for all our clients. If you want us to perform the upgrade, please email a "root" or "sudo" login to your server to [email protected] We will upgrade AHL and email to you when it is completed.

Sorry for the inconvenience.

Best regards,
Max Artamonoff

I know your main concern is for your customers and business, but for others with domains at DirectNIC could you elaborate on what happened? Someone else reported having a high-traffic domain stolen from the same registrar a couple days ago. I'd be curious if it was expiration-related, if the domain was locked, or anything else you could say about how it was stolen.
