Am I being overcharged by my host?
I'm not saying names, because they are a very good company, and I like them, but I was wondering if I am being overcharged.
The server I have with them is dedicated (managed), with 300 gigs for $250. I have better offers in other places, but this host has been giving me great service for a couple of years. So, is this too expensive? |
of course
we are selling 10mbps for $150 |
Its a little bit on the high side but usually hosts offer their best pricing when you push more bandwidth, because there are costs that you cant avoid when you setup a dedicated server for a client. So usually the less bandwidth with your dedicated server the higher the price, so its not all that extreme. Again, if you are happy with their service hit them up and see if they can give you a bit of a bump in GBs since they probably wont drop the price much, but they should be able to add a bit more transfer to your plan.

not that expensive, its managed and if it has great support, i would stick with it for a bit more, maybe talk to them about discounts on your next servers

not bad see www.foundrynap.com

That's not bad at all, if it's a good server and good bandwidth.
Think about it, save a hundred bucks and lose half your customers from shity connections, or pay a fair price and provide a quality service. If anything let them know and see of they can get a you a little discount. We charge $299 for 500 gigs on a 100 meg line. http://www.adult-website-hosting.com and have about 70-80 customers at this price point. |
RIPPED OFF! ServerProvider can do a lot better! Icq me 77841730

Being "overcharged" is totally subjective.
When with a hosting company, you aren't only paying for server space and bandwidth, you're also paying for SERVICE. The combination of those 3 elements is what makes up a good hosting experience. If you're missing one of those elements, odds are at one point or another you will find yourself unhappy with your host. If price is your ONLY concern, meaning that you have no other complaints about your host... stick with them. The grass isn't always greener on the other side. |
If you are happy with your host and your service and have been paying that price for a while contact your sales rep and see if they can re-work your contract. If the box has been dedicated long enough to be paid for they will most likely adjust your billing.
|
I would say as long as your happy with their service and support stay with them. You get what you pay for... an as long as they have been good to you I say stay with them.
|
It's not always the hardware, the space, the speed. It's the stability, enginuity and fast response of your host that matters which is commonly priceless.
|
send them to this post, tell them you want a discount as BW is a bit cheaper then 2 years back.
|
That's some expensive bandwidth, yipes!
|
I've got a personal dedicated that i've bought outside of my normal providers... $114 for Athlon XP 2400+ 1GB ram 120GB ide and 700GB/mo so yah, i think you're getting ripped. If you *need* better, and are unsatisfied, feel free to click on the request a quote link in my sig.

XOXOXO *Krystal* |
hey krystal, lighthost seems pretty shady, doesn't give hardware specs or anything... and their bandwidth prices are outrageous, nobody i know pays $100/meg
|
I pay $400 for 10 times the bandwidth you are using with splitinfinity. Super fast server as well... :winkwink:
|
not the cheapest then again if their service is good
|
Even if the service is great, its too much, there are many companies with great support with better prices. Its 2005.
|
sly.. couldnt agree more.. i know i could get a better deal with other places and had offers and incentives to move over to other places.. but why move if no problems are there and everything runs perfect?
|
Have you asked them for a better deal?
|
Not bad a price. If you're a happy customer for all those years, that's not a bad price at all for dedicated.
|
Personally, I'd say you're being overcharged. I have a managed dedicated server with Phatservers and I'm paying a lot less for more bandwith. And Phatservers has a reputation for amazing support, above and beyond what's needed.
Unless your current host sends you hookers occasionally, you should check out Phatservers. |

For the bandwidth/space and specs of server it probably is a bit too expensive.
But if you are getting 24/7 support and they do it all for you, then it can be fair. But most any decent hosting company will give you more for $250 |
