How server intensive is a vBulleting board? And how hard is it to configure/install? I am looking to get one for a non-adult project I have.

Would you recommend I install it on a server all by itself, or would it be cool to host it on an adult server where I host some of my adult sites? My concern is how stable the vbulletin is, I don't want it bringing down my adult stuff.

Vbulletin's relatively easy to configure and install. In my experience it's been pretty stable, and unless you're receiving an extremely high amount of active users to it, it shouldn't affect your speeds.

If you run alot of traffic through it you should expect to start encoutering load problems. We have quite a few users and when the usage gets really high especially with searching, uploading, attachments, etc, it can bog down the system. But if you dont have alot of users its pretty easy to use, configure, run, and it wont mess with your system.

It can be very heavy if the board in question has lots of simultaneous members logged in and many visitors...

As for install its piss-easy...even a monkey could install VBB

thanks guys, I expect to have a total of 1000 users total per day, with 100 on at a time. Is that pretty safe would you say? Or would you consider that to be intensive?

Depends on many variables, like what is your server specs, what line do you have (capped may hurt you alot on the "forum spikes") and what other use (if any) the server used for the forum has :)

I have a VB board that can get a lot of users at times and have never noticed a slowdown, there are things you can do to optimize it and reduce load.

As far as install/setup of the forum, its very easy... learning the software inside and out is much more complicated. There is so much that it can do!

I would not consider that many users to be "large" per say.

Simple to install, easy on the server. Get on it lol.

Dont hurt the server that bad, only when you send emails.
