NEW YORK ? Filmmaker Michael Moore's bodyguard was arrested for carrying an unlicensed weapon in New York's JFK airport Wednesday night.

Police took Patrick Burke, who says Moore employs him, into custody after he declared he was carrying a firearm at a ticket counter. Burke is licensed to carry a firearm in Florida and California, but not in New York. Burke was taken to Queens central booking and could potentially be charged with a felony for the incident.

Moore's 2003 Oscar-winning film "Bowling for Columbine" criticizes what Moore calls America's "culture of fear" and its obsession with guns.

Is it really ironic?

Seems to me that it just helps Moore prove his point that America has an obsession with guns which is driven by a culture of fear.

Moore was not allowed to board the plane, they considered all the cholesteral he was carrying to exceed the allowed cary on baggage.

There's 0 irony in there. Did you even watching Bowling and listen to what he said? There was nothing anti-gun in that movie.

Moore is getting thinner, its because he hasnt brought out any propaganda recently, but when he does, everyone will go and buy it and he will have enough money to buy some food. The only thing hes acheived is that hes made a lot of money, hasnt changed anything, hasnt got rid of bush, the guy is a fucking loser.....But still people buy his shit, talk about wool being pulled over your eyes, hes made a career out of doing nothing.....

I'll explain...

Moore's point is that America has an obsession with guns which is driven by a culture of fear.

The need to have a gun carrying bodyguard seems to support that idea.

It is ironic that he is acting like all other Americans that have fallen into this culture of fear.

Did he ever claim to be immune from it?

unfortunately in mooore's case it is a double edged sword. i am sure there are a lot of people that would like to see him dead

i personally don't like the guy, i don't like where he has gone. I appreciate the message he tried to send, but i think it hurt more than helped...i think it got republicans enraged more than motivated democrats.

roger and me + bowling for columbine were 2 excellent films....ones that i will always want to watch again, and that will go down in history as making people aware of a lot of great things....but farenheit 9/11 went in a wrong direction and really hurt when it was meant to help

I think its stupid. Moore was so high and mighty against the firearms industry in Bowling. In my opinion, the fact that his bodyguard has a firearm in the first place smells of hypocricy on the part of Moore. If you are so against something from a moral standpoint, dont support it any way.

MickeyG 01-20-2005 08:17 AM

i guess cops shouldn't carry guns either.
