California's first execution in nearly three years
Dead man walking tonight......
SAN FRANCISCO, California (AP) -- Gov. Arnold Schwarzenegger and the U.S. Supreme Court on Tuesday turned back a plea for mercy for a man convicted of murdering two women in 1981 over a drug deal, clearing the way for California's first execution in nearly three years. Donald Beardslee, 61, is scheduled to die by injection Wednesday at one minute past midnight. "The state and federal courts have affirmed his conviction and death sentence, and nothing in his petition or the record of his case convinces me that he did not understand the gravity of his actions or that these heinous murders were wrong," Schwarzenegger said in his written denial. Beardslee's lawyers claimed he suffered from brain maladies when he killed Stacey Benjamin, 19, and Patty Geddling, 23, to avenge a soured $185 drug deal. http://www.cnn.com/2005/LAW/01/18/ca....ap/index.html |

wow, 3 years since the last one! This actually is a pretty big deal.
|
Why keep people alive for so long? I mean... they feed him for years just to kill him.
|
any one who kills someone else must be insane. Even more so to kill someone over $185.
|
We are having an execution party in Hermosa Beach if anyone wants to attend
|
Lethal Injection is lame... they should sick starving dogs on em.
|
Seems like Texas has an execution every 3 days... why does California wait 3 years?
|
Wasn't California one of the states that put a stay on executions? For some reason, I assumed it was. Hmmm

They say it costs more money to kill someone on death row than for an inmate to serve life in prison. The legal fees for a inmate on death row seem to add up to more than just letting him serve life.. Personally I think it should be against the law to put someone to death with out proper DNA testing for those that request it. |

Seems as though alot of people think he is innocent and most of the evidence points to his innocence. http://www.nodeathpenalty.org/factsh...vinCooper.html |

Ratings would skyrocket and Pepsi would make bank. |
I think it is sad what happened to his victims and worse still what a civilised society do.
My view will always be the same. There can never be a justified taking of human life. |

There should be DNA testing and no doubt of the person's guilt 100%!

He won't be back!

Belarus and Uzbekistan are the only countries in Europe and Central Asia still carrying out executions. The global trend towards the abolition of the death penalty now makes Japan and USA the only two of the ?Group of Eight? major industrialised countries to retain this inhuman and degrading punishment.
