Why I was proved right about Mexicans. Ranting & Raving here

We got a house in Baja about 8 months ago. When we first got here, I (as a typical US citizen) used to criticize Mexicans and considered them inferior. My wife (who has European and Latin blood mixed) used to tell me that Mexicans were good people, they just didn't have the same oportunities, and I should back off, and consider them as equals.
So, after some psychotherapy from her, I stopped talking shit about the Mexicans.

But.... then, my wife (who had brought a Mexican Residence permit from Miami, issued by the Mexican embassy there) had to renew her permit. And fuck, these ignorant people gave her so much shit about it, that she had to give up. So she never got her permit renewed, due to ignorance of the Mexican authorities.
Also, we wanted to open an office here, and give jobs to Mexicans, which would help the economy, so you'd think that the government here would be interested, right? Wrong! To open the office, we need the residence permit, and no matter how hard to tried, we couldn't get it renewed.

Then our home got burglarized. And guess what happened? We called the cops, they came, and stole shit from our home too! We went to the Federal police, and they told us that they couldn't lift fingerprints, or do anything else, because they needed a permit from Tijuana and some other bullshit.

On top of that, whenever we go to a business here to get something done, things get screwed up: t-shirts printed, business cards, flyers... it all has to be redone.

So, sorry for the ranting and raving, but fuck, I was proved right! These Mexicans are so ignorant that they have to be considered inferior.
My apologies to any Mexican webmasters out there, but... fuck, I had to air out my frustrations!

Might be time to move?

foolio 01-18-2005 12:36 PM

So why are you still there?

Gabriel 01-18-2005 12:36 PM

HAHAHA

gringo tonto.

pornguy 01-18-2005 12:42 PM

Gabriel: vete a que te den por el culo.

I am still here, because I bought a house, and because I brought my parrot with me, and it is IMPOSSIBLE to take back across the border into the USA.

pornguy 01-18-2005 12:44 PM

and it sucks to pack everything and go back to Miami. Man, it was 5 days of driving and pulling a trailer across the country, what a nightmare.
But indeed, it may be time to go back to Miami. Not many Mexicans there, thank God! Plenty of Cubans, but Cubans are cool.

dirtydesignz 01-18-2005 12:45 PM

I think your karma is in need of a lttle help :) Indeed it is more difficult to get things done in Mexico, but with patience and understanding and some copias and more copias...things eventually get done.

While some Mexicans are hard to deal with and tollerate, I know alot more Americans that are WAY more ignorant than any Mexican I have met so far. They have a way of doing things here that aren't like American or any other country, but that is just how it is and if you want to live here, I guess you just get used to it :)

Something we were told by many people here...if someone tells you 'no' one day, the next day they may just tell you yes and make it seem so simple. My husband is having to learn patience too...especially driving.....I'm sure all the taxis here think he is just a crazy white guy! I just hold on and plant my feet on the floorboard and wait!

BradM 01-18-2005 12:48 PM

I was only in mexico for a short time, but the people I met were not at all ignorant. Matter of fact I fell in love with the people. Amazing culture down there, there is a lot we can learn from them about family.

Entropy 01-18-2005 12:58 PM

the police in mexico are very corrupt

colpanic 01-18-2005 01:02 PM

You live in TJ?

That would be your first mistake :)

jt420 01-18-2005 01:04 PM

you had to know ahead of time that the police are fucking corrupt as hell in mexico. sorry to hear about your break in, but i think it could almost be expected being the new gringo in town. good luck getting situated and hopefully everything falls in place for you.

Sounds like the Mexicans are smart enough to screw a couple gringos out of their money...hell, even the police are making a few bucks from you.

Rictor 01-18-2005 01:12 PM

What's a house cost in Baja compared to Southern California?

So true :thumbsup

Evil Chris 01-18-2005 01:18 PM

Us Canadians are worse, eh. Don't come up here.
We don't print tee shirts.

Rictor 01-18-2005 01:21 PM

Yah, I can understand feeling that Canadians are inferior...but Mexicans...they make such tasty food!

Steve 01-18-2005 01:29 PM

Dont hate on all Mexicans just because you've been getting a hassle by the ones near you.
I hated Tijuana - tourist trap, and all the little street beggers bummed me out
Rosarita, on the other hand - loved that place! Just about 35 minutes away, and it was just som much more laid back.

bdld 01-18-2005 02:07 PM

ignorant mexicans? after reading your rant, you're the ignorant one :)

This sounds like what happens when any number of Americans relocate to anyplace South of the US. I've heard similar stories from all over the Carribean (know lots of guys in the DR) and SA.

jimmyf 01-18-2005 06:03 PM

i have a friend that moved 2 Guadalajara, Mexico a few months ago, very sure I will be getting a report from her at any time now on Mexico.

the 5 or 6 times I've been there I've been treated very nice.
But visisting is not the same as living there.

xclusive 01-18-2005 06:09 PM

Mexico is great I never had a problem with it. But like anywhere it's the area that you are in and even if it's a nice area sometimes shit just happens sorry for your problems

Aquarius 01-18-2005 06:14 PM

Get out of Tijuana man, borders in Mexico are not the best place to live.

hydro 01-18-2005 06:16 PM

Welcome to the real world gringo :Graucho

Gabriel 01-18-2005 06:23 PM

Quit blaming everyone else and get that Mexican Residence permit, looks like it'll save alot of grief. Did you honestly do any research before moving down there? What part are you in? Did you talk to anyone else who had made the trek? I dont know you, but you seem to give up to easily.

That said, i'll quote all the rednecks... "...if you dont like it, go back to your own country"

Really? I know a guy that got busted with a gun in his luggage in Mexico City and was unable to buy his way out of it. As a matter of fact, the federale threatened to nail his ass for bribery if he said it again. He did four years of a five year sentence before he was able to buy his way out.

Nubiles 01-18-2005 10:25 PM

I eat like 12 tacos each day.

That is so sad. I guess Mexico is not the right place for you and your wife. :(

Pornwolf 01-18-2005 10:37 PM

El gringo no welcomeo.

Zerof8 01-18-2005 10:46 PM

I know what you mean man. But for everyone else harrassing you, we all know that no particular group of people is more ignorant than another. However when you continuously have problems with one group you get pissed and you need to say some of the shit you are dealing with just to get it off your chest so that you dont shoot the next mexican cop you see because he stole some of your wifes jewlery.

colpanic 01-18-2005 11:36 PM

I just hope you really aren't living in TJ... if you are further south, it is nice! TJ is possibly the shittiest place I've ever been to. (Even worse than Newark :) )

Tijuana is nothing but criminals and drunken frat boys.

BVF 01-18-2005 11:50 PM

You're not talking to them the right way. There's a town in southern mexico where I can just show up, knock on a door, be let in and disappear. Even if the authorities were looking for me, these people in this town are very protective of you. And I know for a FACT that you can buy a residency permit if you talk to the right people...Hell, you can even get some ID saying you're a fucking Mexican citizen.

But because you're an arrogant gringo you won't get any farther than getting taken advantage of.

pornstar2pac 01-19-2005 07:50 AM

when I was 19-20 years old and not old enough to go to bars here I would go visit my friends at UCSD and we would go to TJ and get shitfaced. long story short, a friend was pissing in the street and the polica saw it and they grabbed him and another buddy next to him and threw them in the car.

they come back 10min. later with No Starter Jackets on, No shoes on, and no jewerly on. . my friends walked backed barefooted to the border. it was funny at the time but who knows what the corrupt cops would do to you there.
