This can be done with 95 and 98 also, but you need to purchase a program like PCAnywhere (or something like that).

Yes, I heard XP described as a "hackers heaven". It was designed to help people when they call tech support at Microsoft so that the techs could take control of the PC and get a better idea of what's wrong.

It's done only with the permission of the person at the receiving end and they must initiate the "help" request. They must approve the request and it also has a time limit on the length of the connection. Every OS is a hacker's heaven if the person(s) running it don't defend themselves properly.

There are actually two different features we're talking about here.

One is the remote-desktop feature and the other is the remote-help server. I'm sure the technology behind them is the same, but they are two separate programs. I haven't used either one of those features yet.

As far as remote control goes, there are lots of options and you don't need to be running XP. Someone mentioned PC Anywhere which is one possibility. There is also a free program called VNC that can run a remote desktop (do a search for VNC in google). There are also versions of RSH and SSH for the windows environment that can do the same thing.

I've been using PCAnywhere for years, for online Maint. It's really pretty good.
With Windows, makes my work alot faster.
I call up Dos or Windows machine, can run them from my office. I can trouble shoot the problem, make changes to the source code on my end, transfer it to the customer, then run the fixed program.
I liked Remote2 back in the dark ages, it was a Crosstalk products.

How many of you men, women and kids ever heard of CrossTalk?

Forgot screw XP.
Jim

MicroEvil will never have access to my systems. Fuck XP.

Phiber 10-29-2001 08:21 PM

Never trust microslut, now that's a great reason to have a proper firewall. http://bbs.gofuckyourself.net/board/biggrin.gif

Juge 10-29-2001 09:34 PM

Microsoft NetMeeting that comes with Windows (at least since version 98) allows this.

Not if you don't install it.

yes. but better use a gtool like
VNC http://www.uk.research.att.com/vnc/ to do thjis.
never use a remote login tool from M$.
.... XP is without a firewall a open system on the net.
only with few basic tools u can 'fuck it up'
also :
windows XP open a port to make the error reporting to M$ ... if a '\hacker\' get this port the the right time the right port he still has with few tools access to all your data. (registy entry's) like mail username & pass AIM user & pass ....... and also if u safe the user & pass on the IE for some sites .... shitt like that http://bbs.gofuckyourself.net/board/smile.gif
