Is the San Diego area really a nice place to live?

I've always wondered this but I've never been there. I hear the weather is great but then in June it's a little gloomy near the ocean.

I've lived in the midwest all my life and enjoy the seasons. Winter can be fun and it makes you appreciate Summer a lot more. Also the colors of fall are great. What are your thoughts?

If you like sunshine, palm trees and the Pacific Ocean, San Diego's an AWESOME place to live! :thumbsup

Trixie Racer 01-18-2005 11:16 AM

San Diego is awesome. If I hadn't had a stalker there, I never would have moved. :disgust

TheEbonyFelony 01-18-2005 11:18 AM

NinjaSteve 01-18-2005 11:20 AM

Is the Pacific Ocean warm during the summer or do you need a wet suit when surfing near S.D.?

(I know northern california the water is cold, just trying to get an idea of the water temp)

sickkittens 01-18-2005 11:22 AM

I'm going there to golf and see a couple baseball games this year.

The new Padre stadium is incredible

TheGoldenChild 01-18-2005 11:27 AM

I have made it my home for 8 years and they don't call this place "America's Finest City" for nothing!

I have lived in 3 different areas since I moved here

Pacific Beach- young , crazy , party ing beach town

Del Mar- Stuffy , affluent beach town ( old money)

and I currently reside in LaCosta- World famous for it's 5 star golf and spas....right by the ocean and a chipshot to the third hole at LaCosta

and you cannot beat the area to live in- it ain't cheap but it's "the quality of life" here that makes it so enjoyable

Steve I moved to San Diego from growing up in Iowa. Let me know if you have any specific questions. I definitely have opinions on the differences between the mid-west and west coast.

marzzo 01-18-2005 11:28 AM

San Diego RULES Steve!!

I lived in San Diego for a while many years ago and I can't quite figure out why I moved back here. These MN winters make my brain freeze :(

ChefJeff 01-18-2005 11:33 AM

San Diego is awesome.

I used to live in North County, Carlsbad...

Still miss it.

The ocean, climate etc. Perfection.

VideoPass_Alex 01-18-2005 12:31 PM

its amazing bro.

i lived 40 feet from the water for 3 years in pacific beach. not to mention its poontang central.

pornguy 01-18-2005 12:35 PM

I am in Mexico just south of SD. The water is cold here year round if you are used to the warmer waters from the East coast.

The weather in May and June leave a little to be desired, but other than that the area is great. Hosuing is a little steep, but that is almost everywhere now.

UniversalPass Pete 01-18-2005 12:36 PM

Hi car theft rate :winkwink:

TheGoldenChild 01-18-2005 12:42 PM

and you cannot beat going to LaJolla Cove on a sunny afternoon and seeing the seals and surf...

pxxx 01-18-2005 12:44 PM

I never went down there, but it looks like a nice place to live.

colpanic 01-18-2005 01:06 PM

Just moved here 6 months ago from back east and it rules.

The water is warm enough to surf without a wetsuit in the summer time, but is still a lot colder than the atlantic. I wear a rash guard in the summer.

Other than the housing market being insanely expensive, it is far and away the best place I have ever lived.

Persius 01-18-2005 01:32 PM

Sd is great :)

I live close to La Jolla, only prob is san diego is expensive
the water in summer is awesome you dont need a wetsuit...
in the winter you do though :)

Real estate market is very high here so just letting you know...
Best thing is the women... they are fuckin hot!

Deepai 01-18-2005 01:35 PM

Move to Seattle Stevie.

san diego is 1 of the best places i've visited in the US

MikeSmoke 01-18-2005 02:03 PM

yes, it can get a little overcast in early summer (they call it "June gloom") but overall, you can't beat it as long as you can afford it. i moved here from the East Coast three years ago, and except for the prices (not only housing, but everything from food to gas) it rules --- there's nothing like going outside in the middle of winter with a smile on your face instead of a coat on your back and gloves on your hands ;-)

Poppy 01-19-2005 04:12 PM

I live in Solana Beach and love it! Have been here 33 years.

flashfire 01-19-2005 04:13 PM

its nice to visit for sure but I dont think I'd wanna live there

flashfire 01-19-2005 04:14 PM

...and those ballpark pictures are great!! nice work :thumbsup

axelcat 01-19-2005 04:16 PM

its my favorite place to visit about 2 times a year

ezrydn 01-19-2005 04:50 PM

I moved to the North Park area back in '58. Lived there most of my life. Left 20 months ago for Guadalajara, a bit farther south of SD than you'd expect.

Always loved San Diego. Then, it got popular. They'll show you pixs of the Petco Park but I didn't see any of the horrendous traffic problem "after game" that it generates. People won't tell you about that one.

I worked in No Country and the traffic on 405/805/8 is totally insane. It takes hours...at rush hour. It only got better after I got my Harley.

Water is "cool." You don't actually need a wetsuit, but it helps. The Pacific Coast is far from "warm."

The nicest part of living in San Diego is: You have LA 2 hours north, Las Vegas 5 hours north, the mountains 1 hour east, the desert 2 hours east and a foreign country 15 minutes south.

Loads of splittails available in Dago, if you know where to look.

However, I walked away from the Dago high prices and ramped up speed of life, for the more tranquil life here, in Guadalajara, MX. That is, if you can call Mexico's 2nd largest city w/7M+ people "tranquil." LOL
