anyone ever been involved with an infomercial channel?

only about a hundred of them on our tv here that do nothing but run premade infomericals...anyone ever done that? How much do you think they cost to run?

Fuckin Bill 01-18-2005 08:50 AM

Getting one on an informercial "channel" is probably relatively low cost. Getting one on a major network during off hours would be more expensive, but I imagine much more productive.

Who really would turn on and watch a tv channel that is nothing but advertising?

9 out of 10 infomercials bomb. Be very careful treading into this type of advertising.

I agree. You see those late night Girls Gone Wild mini-infomercials on E and Comedy Central? I bet they sell 100's of vids every time they show it (about 3 times an hour from 1am to ?? )

Everytime I see one my initial reaction is DAMN this must work well, I even want to buy the video after seeing that. And my second reaction is wondering how much that would cost. More than my ad budget that's for sure.

Anyone with info?

I got so stoned one night about 3 years ago that I got a pen and paper and started taking notes on an infomercial... what an asshole thing to do :stoned and this is why I don't smoke anymore :1orglaugh

Its not so much the cost of the air time - its more the cost of the production. Its not something that can be produced with a decent digital camera - it has to be done high end and the editing is challenging not to mention the encoding. But once its done you can buy 60 seconds on the cable channels late night 11pm - 6am nation wide for about $500 an airing but remember it takes at least 3 times being scene before the consumer actually even remembers seeing it.

she wouldnt have to produce the ads, only air them. The ad quality would be the advertisers responsibility.

Yeah, that's true I suppose. Hadn't really considered them. But they're also a different style. They change things up relatively quickly. And they do sell some legitimate products. Most infomercials are just selling crap and snakeoil, or a mixture of the two, and most people know it by now.

Pornwolf 01-18-2005 09:24 AM

Anyone know about how much a decent 30 minute one is on a channel like E?

the type of channels I am talking about all have premaid infomericals..they all run the same JML type adverts with phone numbers that are obviously just like ref codes for us and these days they have a website they link to which is ref codes.

those sure are some high tech buttons in your sig

oceania 01-18-2005 10:20 AM

It sounds like you may be talking about the public access channels.
BTW Cost to produce can be relatively cheap. You can shoot them with a MiniDV dump the footage into your edit system and output to BetaSP which will meet broadcast standards. BetaSP record decks can be rented from equipment rental houses.
