RegisterFly.com WARNING

I just called customer service to unlock a domain I wanted to transfer.

The Cust service person said, "no problem, I can do that for you. What domain?"

Then she unlocked it. Without ever asking my name, account name, password, etc.

HEADS UP!

pradaboy 01-17-2005 01:10 PM

this is fucked up, but still if your whois info is correct nobody could transfer it without your consent

I am still going to change to directNIC though... any other suggestions for trustworthy registrars that have 7 days a week support?

sumphatpimp 01-17-2005 01:34 PM

don't mean shit.
you still get an email, you have to confirm or the transfer is off.

pornstar2pac 01-17-2005 01:35 PM

no no , if you DONT respond to the email the transfer goes thru.

So if someone fills your email box to the limit right before they try to transfer the "transfer email " gets bounced and the transfer goes thru..

xxweekxx 01-17-2005 02:14 PM

u guys arent too too smart.. IF i was gonna steal someone's domains.. and he had correct whois, all you have to do is bomb the email in the whois..

put ur mailing boxes on 24-7 and hit his email with like 1mil emails.. keep ur boxes on for 3 days and keep hitting his email with diff "froms", etc, so everything is unique..

he wont even see the registrar email come thru :winkwink:

Halcyon 01-17-2005 02:15 PM

I'll let you know if everything goes through or what. Just sharing the content of the phone call sicne it freaked me out a bit.

yes but if nobody responds to it , the transfer goes through, and if the email account is full the email gets bounced.

Unless they have some other method that violates the rules ?

AgentCash 01-17-2005 02:22 PM

All the transfers I've done in that last few weeks have said something to the effect of "If this transfer is not confirmed in the next 5 days, it will be canceled." Have a link for more info on the automatic transfer Smokey?

SmokeyTheBear 01-17-2005 02:23 PM

The reason why they did this was shady registrars would just ignore requests to transfer people own domains, ( because they lose money ) so they would send the user through some insanely impossible paper trail to transfer the domain.

Some registrars are doing it differently.

I tried it on a directnic name and transferred it then i didnt agree to the transfer to see wht would happen , i just ignored the email entirely, and it didnt go through ( domain was unlocked )

But i tried the same thing on names names names and godaddy and it went thru

Trax 01-17-2005 02:28 PM

this is just plain wrong... can not be I have to transfer all my domains away from RF...
someone email them and kick their asses.
