will a dual screen make me work faster?

i get distracted by boards, especially this one, a lot. When im on it i barely work! Shit sucks so bad. So is a dual screen a good option? i heard some ppl have the boards on one screen and their work on the other. This sounds perfect! does it really work as in a better productivity?

Spudman 01-17-2005 11:14 AM

i do that sometimes but it just helps you do a few things at once easier. the best thing is to try it and see if you like it.

gangbangjoe 01-17-2005 11:14 AM

simple question >> simple answer: No

because you only can concentrate on one screen

dready 01-17-2005 11:19 AM

I just bought a pair... I'll let you know in a few days!

yes , but less time minimizing shit and rearranging your workspace .
Trust me .. Ive had dual display for years and I will never go back .

I've even had 3 for a few months at a time , but it seems to blow video cards :P

way more productive.

wes 01-17-2005 11:37 AM

dual monitors is very helpful in my opinion. I find it easier to do my graphics, and programming.

jt420 01-17-2005 11:42 AM

ive never had dual monitors though i think it would be more of a distraction.

jact 01-17-2005 11:45 AM

I have dual monitors and have for a couple years now. Generally I work in one and have my various messenger conversations open on the other (Minimizing and maximizing seems to do strange things to some applications). When working in software like Photoshop or Premiere Pro you can stretch it to both monitors and have all of your controls available on one monitor and your photos/video on the other, it's quite helpful and time saving. Eventually I'd like to go to a three monitor setup.

Hell no... This board will still be your main focus. Trust me, I have 2 screens. The only way to get work done is to not open any webmaster boards. PERIOD! :thumbsup :helpme

MickeyG 01-17-2005 11:49 AM

dual screens helps productivity tremendiously

nico-t 01-17-2005 11:55 AM

SGS 01-17-2005 11:57 AM

We have dual monitors on everything and would never go back

MandyBlake 01-17-2005 12:08 PM

i don't know if it will make you work faster, but its very nice to have. i've had two lcds for years now. i could never go back to just one.

Gangbangjoe you don't know what you talking about ...

Can you do your work faster with duall screen? YES YES AND AGAIN YES

enter » 01-17-2005 12:30 PM

dual rules! Just don't use it to have two gfy threads open.

It's great to have a full monitor just for photoshop workspace, with all the toolbars and pallettes on the second monitor along with a preview of the site your building or some other reference. There's also enough room for an icq convo or two over there. It makes your time much more productive.

DutchTeenCash 01-17-2005 12:33 PM

no you can only concentrate on one

Ive been running 3.. 3 Seperate video cards for aver a year.. ;)

tyler86ed 01-17-2005 12:42 PM

Dual monitors are the way to go. It probably saves me an hour a day of alt tabing, copy pasting, etc. Its def the way to go. I had to go back to one monitor for about a month and I almost went insane. Trust me, your efficiency will go through the roof, its worth the extra money.

Za Ha 01-17-2005 12:44 PM

Yup I get much more work done on 2 screens :)

whodarkman 01-17-2005 12:46 PM

I've had Dual monitors for years and I think it works best. :2 cents:

Shannon G 01-17-2005 12:47 PM

I've got three right now and I can't wait to add another. lol

Sometimes, I think I'd like to take the laptop out to the tv and work out there, but I can't handle the single screen when I'm doing more than answering emails... no "space" to work.

Mr Pheer 01-17-2005 01:00 PM

Dual monitors helps me get alot more done, and get it done faster. For instance, I have ultraedit on one screen and my browser on the other, so i can see how pages change while I'm coding them. Or I'll have some work stuff on one screen and messengers/gfy/other stuff on the other screen.

And whoever said you can only concentrate on one screen obviously hasnt tried it. That may be true if the screens are on opposite sides of the room, but when both are right in front of you, its no problem.

shuki 01-17-2005 01:01 PM

I just got in 2 sony 19 inch lcd's and was having trouble choosing the videocard. I ended up with a matrox 750 and then added a 3rd sony 19 inch to the order. I will post pics when it is set up.

feN 01-17-2005 01:35 PM

Ive been working with two 19" TFTs for some time now and I would never go back
It's a great difference
3 or 4 TFTs can be an even greater advantage for certain tasks

I got dual 17 makes work alot easier and faster but if your gonna have the board on one and working on the other. I doubt you will get any work done. :thumbsup

EZRhino 01-17-2005 03:52 PM

I'm sure it worth it ! Gonna have to switch to dual screen soon ! :S

MikeXAMO 01-17-2005 04:03 PM

I can't work without less than 2 screens! It increases productivity in that you have more space to lay things out.. its like getting a bigger more organized desk!

Brad Gosse 01-17-2005 04:21 PM

I have been on dual screens since 1996 when my 2 17" NEC CRT screens cost me $1300 each.

Now I have 2 NEC 19" LCD's (they cost me a little less)

DarkBob 01-17-2005 04:44 PM

I've been using dual screens for a couple months now, and I love them.

It's great to have a code environment on one monitor and the site on the other..

Sometimes I'll have the board open in one, just in case something interesting comes up. I keep my chat crap on the second monitor as well.

nico-t 01-17-2005 06:00 PM

some good points.. im gonna dust my other monitor off, hope i get the the dual setup ready tomorrow.. its too damn late now :)

Actually yes. IMO you can control things more easily when they are right in front of you :)

Wolfy 01-17-2005 07:42 PM

dual screens will help you iin pretty much everything BUT getting sidetracked on gfy - that's unavoidable. get the duall screen, but when you want to work, stay the hell away from this place!

Richard - Triplexcash 01-17-2005 08:26 PM

highly suggest the dual monitors, made my life easier years ago

flashfire 01-17-2005 08:28 PM

I like it for keeping my tools on in photoshop or whatever

SBJ 01-17-2005 08:34 PM

I don't have dual screens but I sometimes use both my laptop and PC at the exact same time..

It's nice to be able to edit pictures on my pc and have any IMs or boards/emails open on my laptop.

Think of it this way, say you are chatting on ICQ and trying to edit pictures at the same time. By having it totally seperate I don't have o minimize it between responces and I can continue to edit pictures while ICQing

might only save you a few min over a day but over time those saved min add up and it is fer less stressfull when you can organize how your work load is done day in and day out

mkx 01-17-2005 09:34 PM

A dual screen is at the top of my shopping list once I have another $1500 to blow on another monitor

pxxx 01-17-2005 09:42 PM

I dont think it will make a difference.

mkx 01-17-2005 09:47 PM

I have 36 windows open right now. A 21" monitor made the biggest difference for me and makes me way more productive. I am sure 2 of them can do wonders

The Sultan Of Smut 01-17-2005 09:53 PM

I use one for work and one for football. I found it was better having the game just to the side rather than turning around to see the TV every time there was a big play.

Screaming 01-17-2005 09:57 PM

prob would help it keep it fresh in your mind cause it would be in eye sight

xclusive 01-17-2005 09:58 PM

yes if you don't get lazy

shuki 01-18-2005 01:46 PM

3 lcd's

So I just got all 3 LCD's in as well as a mtrox millenium P750 card and I am having trouble setting up all 3 screens to be independent. At the moment all I can get is stretched across all 3 screens. Any one have experience with this card?
