Has anyone that still posts around here, actually retired?

Anyone?? if so, how are things going for you? If you don't mind me asking :)

Dirty F 01-17-2005 02:15 AM

I work 10 mins a day...does that count?

nofx 01-17-2005 02:15 AM

interesting question....

WWC 01-17-2005 02:15 AM

I dont think i will ever retire....this has become a hobbie...even as i go to the office and all my staff do everything, i just decided to turn my work into a hobbie...

bluff 01-17-2005 02:20 AM

I don't really work

reynold 01-17-2005 02:20 AM

Everything's going well so I don't see any reason why I should retire. :)

luv$ 01-17-2005 02:22 AM

Lookin for that big gold watch and a plaque?

emthree 01-17-2005 02:22 AM

Doubt there's anyone who's "fully" retired.

There will allways be active sites. Hell, some people even consider surfing GFY to be work. (seriously)

detoxed 01-17-2005 02:25 AM

Yeah lately I havent been doing much really.. just hanging out with my new girlfriend, doing various drugs and answering emails. im getting motivated though and will be doing big things very soon.

Where do I sign up for that job? :upsidedow

BRISK 01-17-2005 02:26 AM

If I was retired, posting on GFY would be the last thing I would want to spend my time doing.

i thought you posted on here in order to say you worked with the mentally retarded.

I couldnt see anything more boring than retiring at a young age. You will have to wait around all day for your friends to come back from work and would just end up watching day time tv for the rest of your life.

KRL 01-17-2005 02:30 AM

Retire and do what? Watch TV like a moron all day long? Play golf with half dead people? Go shopping everyday? Fly around on airplanes to different cities like a rich vagabond?

Working is fun if you have lots of deals and businesses to play with all day long.

Fuck retirement, when I go down, my head will be hitting my desk like my father's did.

Cash 01-17-2005 02:31 AM

I'm 31 and retired, wanna know the secret? Send money to PO Box ... and I'll tell you :)

yes, traveling the entire world for years on end, finishing a university degree in something you have no worries about making a career out of, and pursuing activities you previous had no time for, sounds boring as hell.

here's a few off the top of my head:

- travel the world
- hike all the best mountains
- snowboard/ski all the best mountains
- climb very difficult mountains
- do several university degrees beyond your first one (if you have one to begin with)
- spend more time reading
- sail across the pacific
- help other people

much more interesting imo, than running a business lol.

Trax 01-17-2005 02:37 AM

Regardless of my age I don't see myself retiring ever.
I can imagine working less when i'm way older but apart from that I will retire when I'm dead.

As for myself... I could imagine doing most of those things (just travel the world, spend more time reading, snowboard/ski all the best mountains, ...) for some time (whether its months or years) but then I think I'd need to get back into some kind of business.

hope that makes sense

i understand. but i think i could take those few things i just listed (in all of 1 minute) and never have to run a business again for the rest of my life.

word....there's simply to much to accomplish and explore out there in so many different fields of interest that a lifetime is simply not enough time. Being able to do all that and explore new interests and opportunities is my retirement. So i guess technically, i'm already retired.

BRISK 01-17-2005 02:42 AM

I have a dream of going to live on a garbage dump in Cambodia for a month.

I want to meet people like this, so I can understand their existence

but it always seems to boil down to business acomplishments for some? why? who gives a shit?

i guess i will never understand this mentality.

Entropy 01-17-2005 02:46 AM

i doubt any retirees are posting here...

MaDalton 01-17-2005 02:49 AM

tired? yes
retired? no

:(

but honestly - i cannot imagine just hanging around on beaches or stuff like that. i need to keep my brain working (so gfy alone would not be enough :winkwink: )

Boiling down to business accomplishments? lol...not all all. I think you misunderstood me or i didn't quite express it correctly. Accomplishments such as, finishing up my book, surfing the African coast (j-bay in particular) and/or yes....running another business or two in the process. Things i wish to accomplish and do in my lifetime basically.

now this, i agree with :)

I'd love to retire, but I'd get bored. My idea of retirement is to have my business run by itself and I teach History or Constitutional law/history at the nearest community college for free. That would be awesome.

yes, but would you do all of that just alone? i dont mean univertisty, i mean travelling, sailing, mountains etc.... doing that with friends would be much better but how about when your friends dont have the time for that because they have to work ( or you dont have any friends )

ytcracker 01-17-2005 03:03 AM

im a student of life so i dont think i will ever retire

in addition i get bored pretty easily so even when im sitting here at home on my ass for days then i just want to go work on something

so why don't you start doing it now?
I always hear you talking about quitting this biz....so why don't you do it finally?

Or have you just decided to stay here "just one more year" :winkwink: and make a few more millions?

I am seriously curious :)

so your argument is: since my friends aren't able to retire, i shouldn't either? time for new friends.

Waiting all day for my friends to come home from work? Are you fucking kidding me?

Those suckers would be getting an email from Peru or a postcard from Amsterdam... if they were lucky.

Watching daytime TV? ahahahahaha... you are painting yourself as a very boring person.

You seem to have such a limited vision. But to be honest, I'm glad drones like you exist. Someone needs to keep the economy going while I take it easy.

jayeff 01-17-2005 03:35 AM

I wonder how many others like me, retired into this business?

For almost 10 years I have been suffering with serious heart problems. For a while after they were diagnosed I kept doing my usual work, but the stress was literally killing me. I have run my own businesses and been a workaholic all my life, so after a few weeks I was climbing the walls. Hence online porn...

Which mostly I don't enjoy. I have never been interested in porn, so for the first time I'm selling to a market for which I don't really have a feel. I'm an ideas/planning person, but now spend most of my time dealing with everyday details. I used to rely a lot on client/customer reactions for modifying my products and services and those hardly exist in online businesses. And at least until a couple of years ago, it was so easy to make money in this business, it has never given me any sense of achievement.

Still, I have very limited options and this beats watching soaps all day, so I shall probably be doing it until I drop...

I could retire at any time but, my creditors see things in a different light.

You can always cashout and sell your sites. Just look at mainstream and shit, its insane but I guess some doesnt care about paying 20 years the revenue of a compnay. YOu can always hold it for some years and sell it yourself.

Damn, this industry is different. 3 months the revenue of a site and you can buy it. :upsidedow

THAT'S a different animal. I thought you were talking about people who aren't working at all. That's MY definition of retirement.

Based on your definition, I'd say there are quite a few "retirees". :)
