Sponsors fix your fucking signup pages

Just been doing the rounds signing up for sponsor programs - can't believe how fucking crap and frustrating the signup pages are:

Greatest problem is if a field isn't filled in correctly (often there is no guidance on the page of how to fill it in) - then the page is cleared and you have to start again.

Example - Triplexcash: (not dumping on you folks - just you were the last guys I tried to sign up to).

Password is apparently required to have uppercase letters + numbers but doesn't say so on the form - yep I got it wrong and the form was cleared and I had to start again. I was then told that the ZIP was incorrect even though I'm outside the US and there is no ZIP - yep form cleared and I had to start again. Gave up...

This is so common its unbelieve, CCBill currently makes you select a US/Can state even when u are outside the US (I decided Yukon sounded cool).
Another (I forget who) insisted my phone number was incorrect even when it was fine and kept clearing the form.

Holy shit you folks must lose good biz due to this...

Its even worse with content providers, where you have to go through that whole shiitty experiance just to see that they dont have the content you want anyway.

Now thats anoying

dudus 01-16-2005 05:09 AM

Wow even worse....

What I can't get is that a lot of time and $$$ are spent on sponsor sites yet they must loose a shedload of signups who don't want to be messed around. Its also 101 webdesign, nothing advanced...

That is so fucking frustrating that it sometimes really makes you wonder if they are really looking for affiliates or just having fun with putting up some unsolvable rebus form
More than once i've moved on to another sponsor after the second or third time their form cleared..

I'll agrea with Johny Traffic that some content providers are even worse, or at least must lose much more buisness on having shitty signup forms.. at least for the sponsors you know before what sites they have and why you'd wan't to sign up, but some of those content shops that doesn't show anything at all in preview and still wants you to give so much info on the form that its getting rediculous you would think they had a hard time getting anyone to signup at all ?

Yep then also sometimes you have to wait for confirmation emails, I know they loose business because I buy alot of content and now wont even bother with a content provider if I have to sign up first

What I don't like about join pages that have the following:

1-) Popups onload
2-) Anonymous join links that go to 'pay by phone'
3-) Too many pages - people don't want to waste time filling out 3 or 4 pages. 2 is the most it should be, but I miss the days of the forms being on just one page.
4-) Not explaining CVV2 simply. Just say what it is and/or have the example image already there instead of people having to click (help)
5-) Not all surfers understand how to submit info. All submit buttons should be specific and say "Click here to join!" or "Click here to submit your info" ... something along those lines.
6-) When it says just 'User Name:' and 'Password:' - It should say 'Choose a User Name:' and 'Choose a Password:' - you might laugh, but I'm sure that confuses some surfers.

Too many developers/sponsors make tours and join pages from their persceptive and they aren't remembering 33% of people are still on dial up, and that most surfers can barely check their email, much less know how everything is supposed to work. I think most sites need to be more newbie user friendly.

Gotcha Furious...

I was actually ranting about signups to sponsor programs - but I guess if the signup to the program sucks then the surfer signup ain't gonna be a breeze..

Jace 01-16-2005 06:00 AM

if i go to sign up and instead of telling me my fuckup and leaving the form filled in it clears everything and makes me do it again...i don't sign up...plain and simple...i am SO impatient, if it wasn't for IE autofill, i wouldn't even sign up for new sponsors..haha

Dalai lama 01-16-2005 06:02 AM

You are so right

DutchTeenCash 01-16-2005 06:03 AM

yeah popups on join loads are terrible not many ppl use them though

Most of your gripes are down to one thing - dumb programmers. They're too dumb to realise that places outside of the US may exist and they may actually have a slightly different way of doing things such as an address (even though they list different countries on the form). It can be a huge pain in the ass sometimes. The most common one is insisting that your state/county has to be 2 letters. You'd think it'd be obvious that the whole world doesn't use two letters for state names.

i want to add:
sponsors: think about how many surfers don't have flash (AND DON'T EVEN KNOW WHAT THAT IS! CAN YOU BELIEVE IT?? NOT EVERYBODY IS A WEBMASTER!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!) before you put it on a tour page

Zester 01-16-2005 07:17 AM
