Just back from seeing Garden State

and I rather liked it. Some bits of it were a bit to close to home for me lately but I went into the film knowing very little about it and ended up thinking it was a very sweet film but not so sweet my teeth hurt.

I suspect it is in the way of films like Lost In Translation in that not everyone will like the style but i did...so 3 stars out of 4 from me. Lost a star because it was a bit self aware at times but I can overlook that for the number of positives in the rest of the film.

Will have to check it out.

Will have to rent that on DVD...thanks for the reminder

rebel23 01-15-2005 01:21 PM

it's a good screenplay & a good movie
if you like that kinda thing ....

warlock5 01-15-2005 02:16 PM

It was a good movie, but there was only one reason I saw it ;)

Peaches 01-15-2005 02:25 PM

I have it here from Netflix and since you and I usually like the same flicks, tonight it will be Garden State :)

you have a crush on the guy from Scrubs? ;)

iBanker 01-15-2005 02:33 PM

My girlfriend made me watch that awful movie. I would rather chew my arm off than watch that again.

TheGoldenChild 01-15-2005 02:33 PM

great flick- as a neurotic Jew who grew up back east and lives out in Cali it hit too close to home...

Throw in the fact that I have been on TV nationally and it's the first thing I get when I come " I saw you on tv"

(Granted I don't play a retard in my tv appearances)
at least I don't intend to
:-))

yeah, like I said, I figured it is one of those you either like or don't. I bet you didn't like Lost In Translation, huh?

nojob 01-15-2005 02:51 PM

Another movie I will pass on.

KCat 01-15-2005 06:47 PM

I loved it, but I'm a bit biased. I adore Natalie Portman. :thumbsup

Peaches 01-15-2005 09:04 PM

OK, watched it tonight. I liked it, but didn't love it. I did think it was very clever in many of the "jokes" and literally LOL several times :) 4 stars

pxxx 01-15-2005 09:09 PM

I want to go see coach carter.

paxton 01-15-2005 09:22 PM

Just watched the DVD of this one. Great flick. Reminded me a lot of Good Will Hunting. Excellent soundtrack and Zach mixed it in with the various themes brilliantly.

This was a breath of fresh air. Funny, yet sad at times, but leaves you full of promise. :thumbsup

I thought Lost In Transalation was overrated, but really liked Garden State...

AVM 01-15-2005 09:54 PM

I loved Garden State, and consider it my favorite movie of 2004....
however, I hated Lost in Translation.

I think you're completely coming out of left field with that comparison.

Pornwolf 01-15-2005 10:23 PM

I thought Lost In Translation was so severely overrated it was sickening. But, when you have Coppola in your name great things happen even when they aren't warrented. I'm a huge Bill Murray fan and I think the girl is the hottest in Hollywood, but even that couldn't save the incomplete dialogue and lackluster script.

Xplicit 01-15-2005 11:35 PM

It was boring as hell. Chick flick.

well glad I didn't fall totally flat on the suggestion :) The knight outfit was one of the unexpected images I have seen on the screen in a while and certainly got us loling.
