Toilet Paper: Which Way to Unroll?

It seems everyone has a strong opinion, one way or the other.

When my wife sets it for "under the bottom", I feel totally betrayed.

mardigras 01-15-2005 12:02 AM

Over the roll for civilized folk, under the roll for Republicans and other heathens:upsidedow

Spunky 01-15-2005 12:03 AM

From the bottom

sharpx9 01-15-2005 12:09 AM

different each time lol..

Mike Okitch 01-15-2005 12:19 AM

It really doesn't fucking matter, so long as I don't have to wipe my ass with the issue of Maxim I'm reading while taking a crap. Glossy paper doesn't wipe well :Graucho

Shoehorn! 01-15-2005 12:21 AM

There has actually been marketing tests done on this, something like 83% of people prefer it to be over the top. I am in that 83% group. :2 cents:

abadfish 01-15-2005 12:26 AM

I hate it when people have it roll out the bottom, I always just assumed people were lazy and then found out that they did it on purpose? WHY??? It's hard to unroll it and grab it when its stuck in the back, it doesn't make sense... When it comes from the top its hanging out there easy to tear off.

Ya... obviously this bothers me :) lol

Some people like to get freaky in private. I hear there are even sites to help them meet each other :winkwink:

I was sure we'd be at some of the same things in Vegas.

Yeah, heard that: http://alt.com

It is a sign genius to fetishize. And the farther from the abjectly sexual the fetish, the greater the genius.

T.p.

Over the top makes for a much easier ripping of the ass wiping material than bottom loading tp...

Wiggles 01-15-2005 05:08 AM

don't actually care, do it both ways, i'm kinky.

Vitasoy 01-15-2005 05:12 AM

I think I do it under the bottom.

2HousePlague 01-15-2005 12:26 PM

Over the top has a sense of optimism about it.

j-

Tala 01-15-2005 12:39 PM

over the top. Under the bottom is where the paper is supposed to go, not the direction of the pull.

Dalai lama 01-15-2005 12:40 PM

Over the TOP of the roll?

:1orglaugh you sure have mindboggling things on your mind huh J :upsidedow

BV 01-15-2005 01:08 PM

OVER THE TOP IS THE CORRECT WAY!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

The same goes for paper towels!

Otherwise half the roll will unroll unless you rip it real quick.

Holy shit!

See what I mean? For some people it isn't even a matter of OPINION or PREFERENCE -- it's a matter of RIGHT or WRONG.

I wonder whether the root of this genetic or experiential?

fuckin' A. What he said. Who doesn't know that?

The Heron 01-15-2005 01:24 PM

I don't care as long as there is a roll to use I am fucking happy! I hate when I finish doing my business then realize the roll is out... and replacement is hidden away in another room!

Tania 01-15-2005 02:09 PM

I like under...

Wolfy 01-15-2005 03:26 PM

I have to put it under the bottom, because if I forget to shuut the bathroom dor my kid goes in there and spinsthe rol - if it is over the top, the paper ends up on the floor. If it's under the bottom it stays rolled up :D

Luckily she only spins it one way lol

Tha's so weird. My experience is the opposite.

I wonder if this is like the Coriolis Effect, which makes the toilet bowl flush spin clockwise in the Northern Hemisphere and counter-clockwise in the Southern -- since, I would say, the centrifugal force lifting the edge of the paper off the surface of the roll and the contact friction holding it down would be unaffected by the direction of spin?

j-

SykkBoy 01-15-2005 03:31 PM

I just sit it on the back of the tank because I'm too fucking lazy to take put a new one on when the old one's gone...

Pete 01-15-2005 03:33 PM

Definately over the top.

dunefield 01-15-2005 03:43 PM

neither... i don't wipe my arse...

:1orglaugh :1orglaugh

We are in the same hemisphere, so Coriolis doesn't apply. Centrifugal force, gravity and AIR are the ruling forces. centrifigul force forces the first layer of paper away from the roll, air gets under it, and then there is no more contact friction. Gravity then pullls the paper to the ground, the kid keeps spinning the roll untill it's all on the ground.

You're more than welcome to go to your bathroom and try it :P

fr8 01-15-2005 03:45 PM

over the top always. any other way is just not right.

evanmorgan 01-15-2005 03:47 PM

over the top, of course /O

Dirty Dane 01-15-2005 03:47 PM

neither. I use a spoon. Cheaper and better for the enviroment.

pornRefinery 01-15-2005 03:48 PM

It seems to me that women just DON'T CARE which way. I always like it coming from the top.. makes so much sense this way.

Interesting Fact:

If you used a roll of toilet paper of standard sheet size to model the distances between the celestial bodies in our Solar System, such that one sheet = 10,000,000 miles. you'd get this data:
  • Sun = 0 sheets of toilet paper from the Sun
  • Mercury = 3.6 sheets of toilet paper from the Sun
  • Venus = 6.7 sheets of toilet paper from the Sun
  • Earth = 9.3 sheets of toilet paper from the Sun
  • Mars = 14.1 sheets of toilet paper from the Sun
  • Jupiter = 48.4 sheets of toilet paper from the Sun
  • Saturn = 88.7 sheets of toilet paper from the Sun
  • Your Anus = 178.6 sheets of toilet paper from the Sun
  • Neptune = 280 sheets of toilet paper from the Sun
  • Pluto = 366.4 sheets of toilet paper from the Sun

Coriolis would not apply in any case as angular momentum is constant and most people's rolls are aligned horizontally rather than vertically.

You may want to check local anomalies in the Earth's magnetic field that have been especially prominent during the current solar storm as being the cause of the problem.

Of course it goes without saying that if you have a plastic or nickel-plated roll holder, none of the above applies unless you can verify the exact time the mold was cast with the manufacturer so as to have a base with with to quantumize any residual Tesla field effects. :2 cents:

Pornopat 01-15-2005 05:15 PM

Who gives a shit?

Maureenoz 01-15-2005 05:39 PM

Over the top. When there is a printed or embossed pattern on the paper, it's printed or embossed only on one side, so if you have it from the bottom, the design doesn't show.

HorseShit 01-15-2005 05:42 PM

over and into my hole

Thank you, John! I totally neglected to consider the possible effects of low-energy electrostatic fields which could certainly be created by interactions between the roll and holders made of certain ferrous alloys. However, I'd say that the type of contact we normally have with rolls of TP (bare skin of the hand, and perhaps a few spins round the core) are not likely to have either the electron richness nor the length of contact to impart the kind of charge you'd need to overcome the mass of even a single sheet. I'm going to take a shit now, with cashmere wool gloves on, and conduct an experiment. Will report findings later.

Over the top. Of course, that also describes me...a little over the top!

smack 01-15-2005 09:38 PM

gotta be over the top. it's just not logical to do it the other way.

That is so not true. Over the top for me, every time. It just rolls off so much easier that way. And then you can fold it into those cute little hotel triangles. ;)
